Default rad banjo bolt from lithuania

a bit longer with larger holes thicker washers, took a bit of time to get here over the Christmas period but worth the wait just for the
aesthetics.

Purchased a new, waterproof car cover for the Pacific Northwest...at least until I can fix the disaster that is my garage and get her pulled in. I suspect the window seals leak...

Repair manual showed up from Amazon, which will be paired with the parts manual I got for Christmas.

Finally made my way through this entire thread. From past #1 to the last.

Tried to start the car with the booster. It clicked a lot, but no turning of the starter. Removed the negative cable and noted lots of rust and corrosion on both the battery terminal and the cable. Will need to clean up the cables. The battery had a sticker dated from 2011 so I'd have to say the battery is likely done for. Noted the dreaded fuel smell in the trunk/boot, so I'll have to refresh my memory on the corrective actions.

I finally replaced my IRS with new disc and pads. Now to filling with new brake fluid after a good flush. Then on to replacing the transmission fluid and filter. What FUN !!

Spent all morning looking for (suspected faulty) Rochester valve and carbón canister on my HE convertible, but cant find the bloody things anywhere.
Not in boot (trunk) and not in front Wheel arch…. very strange.

if it is a UK spec car, it may not have a cannister. On a coupe the Rochester valve is behind the cannister which is above the tank in the RHS buttress. No idea where it is on the convertible, but must be in the boot somewhere. Check just in front of the LHS rear wheelarch, just inboard of the chassis rail. If there is a thin tube protruding from the body there, that is the to-atmosphere outlet from the Rochester valve. This is the diagram for your convertible from JCP, so it is in there somewhere!

Bought some 3/8 aluminium hardline, AN braided hose and AN6 fittings to redo the oil pipes to match the 4L60e also bought a heatsink oil cooler so these lines will not go to the Jaguar oil heater in the radiator. They will go straight to the new cooler behind the horns.

My car is 1977 German spec, and I’m fighting the dreaded fuel smell. I spotted the outlet you mention in left rear wheel well when I was working on my return fuel line, and I have a beer can like device with 3-4 hoses attached in RH buttress above the tank.
Should I look for a Rochester valve further up behind the tank ?

Sorry for the hijack...

Hey Greg.
Thank you for the advice.
However, its not under front left wing at all.
That position is for Coupe and Cab models.
Am stripping boot, battery and tank cover now to see if its on the tank itself.
I can't even see a to-atmosphere tube anywhere (think it may have been blocked up by a hornet, common here in Spain).
I now have a replacement second-hand Rochester just in case.....

Yes, the valve is behind the condensing can and forward of it. If you can remove the can you will find it there. if you have not had the tank out Leo, it s probable the smell is the tank or the lines to it. If the RV is faulty, you normally get a whoosh when you open the filler cap.

Thanks Greg

My tank was out 2 years ago and was found tight. It was surface treated, the bad rivets grinded down and a new foam base was used at refit. It was smelly before and after this operation. I changed all hoses inside the boot, but I did not spot any valve connected to the condensing can thingy.
This time I’m replacing all remaining fuel hoses with Conan 3133 (R9 quality), replacing the under floor steel lines (found a pin hole in the return line 10 cm from the grommet into the boot) to Cunifer lines. I have also replaced the fuel filler cap, the old had a sealing apparently made from stone...
No wooshing though so I do not have a non functioning Rochester valve it seems. Maybe someone has discarded it at some point, the car is 42 years old after all...

Leo
Do not forget to renew the large diameter fuel filler hose and the drain tubes from the filler well, and their Y shaped joiners to the water drain holes etc.

The 2 1/4” filler tube was changed 2 years ago, I found it at Demon Tweeks. I didn’t think of the drain tubes, but they will of cause also see a drop of fuel now and then. Added to the list...

Picked up my new to me 85 XJS HE, 165k on the clock, stunning good looks, straight, no rust, good paint (red) and a strong motor. Just a few small niggling electrical issues to sort but that's not a worry.

But air-con needs to be re-gassed and given Melbourne weather at the moment its a priority (44 C last Friday).

My 78 Daimler has a stable mate
