Whats this for?

Hi all, doing some tidying up in the trunk today and underneath the battery, behind the cover, I came across this taped up lead/connector.
It looks to be original although not sure that the factory would use masking tape around the covered connecting pins. Any one know what it is for?
The car runs fine and everything works as it should.
Any thoughts, ideas what it is for would be appreciated.

I THINK it is for the original factory tester. Kind of like an OBD but just WAY older... The computer used to connect would be about the size of a factory as well ;)

No, the Jaguar Diagnostics connector was round. I think is part of the prewireing for a phone.

Had the same in my XJS. It is part of the telephone kit. I removed all the wiring for mine. It goes up over the left rear wheel well and down to the floor across to the console under the storage box. There may be a external speaker in the right front foot well above the knee pad close to the fire wall.

Hi all, it just looked a rather substantial cable to be floating around.
The car itself is a 95 model and does actually have obd connected under the dash. At first I thought that it was the lead for a cd player/changer in the trunk, but I found that in the other footwell. As i said it doesn't affect the car so I will leave well alone.
Perhaps when I locate some new carpet for the interior of the car and I remove the seats, I may see if I can trace the said lead.I will update the thread then.

Thanks all for the replies.
