Where's the Cup Holders??

Man, I looked everywhere for the cup holder in my XJS and could not find a single one! Is it hidden somewhere? There's plenty of provisions for smoking a Camel but where do I put my Scotch??

Of course I'm joking. :icon_crackup::icon_crackup:

I know that someone makes a ski slope with some small cup holders but I'm wondering what other options there are.

I'm sure some of you out there have some creative solutions. Show us your cup holders!

make the passenger hold it while you enjoy driving

Get over the price tag and drop the cash on the ski slope. The rest of the options are cheap looking.

There are clips that hang the cup off the side of the ski-slope assembly as well as the window.

There's a wooden cup holder that has a base that fits into the hole where the ash tray used to be.

A few people may have used the center arm rest from another model Jaguar that came with cup holders.

Just get the ski slope.

I adapted the armrest from an xj40, x300 or x308 that has the folding cup holders on the center armrest. I heard that the skislopes are just a little bit thicker than the original and can be a bas ard to get the plastic parts back on...

The PO of my car screwed in folding cup holders on the door. The kind you use on a boat. Horrible. I used them for the drive home 3 hours 32c 85f with no ac. I closed the door and my slurpee hit the floor and dumped. First spill out of the way at least.
Removed immediately when I got home.

There are two temporary types I know of. One is a foldout/pop out type that hooks over the center console and the other hooks under the carpet to stay in place. I think the former is hideous and I don't mind the latter because it stays out of the way. The floor is so flat and close anyway that I sit my drinks on it a lot of the time so I figured that was the best solution.

Another unobtrusive is to put one inside the center console, so it is only visible if you happen to be using it. It is an automatic though, so I usually just hold my cup

I prefer Brake Buster's solution.

If the current passenger refuses, get another, simple.

I looked at all sorts when I had the XJ-S's and none really did it for me, so I went without. Having sold the kids, I made a bed thingy on the rear seat, LH side, and put a fridge there, problem solved. The heat from the fridge vent was directed out alongside the rear speaker, and picked up the "flow thru" vent passage to the 1/4 panel outlet, never a problem.

Even the X300 foldout are so-so. Cans are easily dislodged.

The S Type is OK, but singular.

I remember seeing these but cannot find them:

"wooden cup holder that has a base that fits into the hole where the ash tray used to be"

Anyone have a link?

EDIT, I've found some options. Cool, but perhaps (at 50 bucks / pair) just as easy to fashion yourself: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADD-CUPHOLDE...3D271417407608

And I like this approach as well; I think I already have some of these sitting around: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-Toyota...3D380803062561

Would someone who has adapted the lid with the cup holders please let's us know how it was done? I have tried to adapt a new old stock lid from a XJ40-no cup holders- because I got it for almost free and it was the same color as my car, but I can not get it to latch or even sit properly.

Thanks

I made one to fit in the glovebox by myself with aluminum pipe and a piece of wood.
The aluminum pipe is OD75mm and detachable. When not in use, I throw the pipe in the dashboard.

Here you can see what it is like. All the explanation is written in Japanese though.

Those look great. Nice job.

Sorry guys. I forgot to post pics..So here are some. The top needed to be cut shorter and the front still needs to be worked on so it shuts and lines up a bit better. But works great, and looks correct....

That looks very nice!

Previous owner of one of my cars installed a ski slope with the fancy aluminum cup holders. Cosmetically they're first rate, but as a practical cup holder they're useless. Very very shallow. I will revert to ashtrays someday. Cup goes in the crotch, which on a cold day ain't so bad.

warrjon 08-08-2017 05:07 AM

I considered the XJ40 armrest modification, but after reading the issues these guys have with the cup holders failing I decided against it.

I love the Japthug's idea and might just consider this for mine.............
