Default Wiper motor shot

He's dead, Jim.

This is off my 1985 XJS. Can I replace just the motor, rather than the whole assembly ?

If your armature dad not burn up, believe it or not that motor is easily repairable. Had the same thing happen on my 88.
1.Pull the arm out of the housing.
2.mark the position of the magnets. If 1 of the magnets has broken loose, carefully scribe the position of the good magnet. Remove both magnets and clean the rust off all parts with abrasives.
3. Clean all surfaces with a good solvent like MEK or Acetone.
4. Reinstall the magnet that you previously marked using JB Weld and clamp into place. Install the other magnet 180 degrees from the 1st magnet.
5. After the epoxy has fully set up, paint all surfaces with a quality paint to stop future rusting.
6. Clean up armature and re-assemble unit and test.

Of course I'll be happy to sell you the one that I rebuilt off my 88 for really cheap. Just tell me what's affordable for you. I would rather sell parts for dirt cheap than send them to the crusher. ( And I really do mean dirt cheap!)

Very interested in your offer. Sent you a pm.

I'm trying to clean up the motor now, I cannot seem to get the shaft out. Would sitting it in some coke over night help? It's pretty seized.

Whew...that is SOME corrosion! If you are not in a hurry, let it set in "coke" or some other mild solvent for several days to a week...it will all come apart soon enough (I've been through this with mine). Then do as Rob suggests and you'll be ok I think. Just don't expect the wipers to ever move fast enough to push anything but the lightest of rain off the windscreen, mine at least seem anemic on the best of days,,,

Good luck with it!

Actually, while I was reassembling the wiper assembly I adjusted the timing of the brushes by leaving the bolts a little loose and turning the end cap until the speed was up and the current draw was respectable and they work great!
