XJS Diff ??? Pinion Seal Leaking

Hi all,

I'm after some help in identifying a diff and also the part number of the pinion seal which has started leaking. I have a 2009 Dax Cobra with a Jaguar Power-Lock diff fitted. It has the casting number CO4HU-004-039 and my best guess is a Jaguar XJS 4HU PL unit, unsure of the year range though.

Tried measuring the pinion seal in situ and it's very roughly 3 1/8" OD and 2 1/8" ID although the ID possibly steps down to less than 2"

Would anyone know if the JLM527 / CBC6923 seal is the correct one? It's the only one around that size I can find.

The diff below is not from the Cobra but an identical one I found when trawling the internet.

Many thanks,

Chris

Chances are almost 100% that CBC6923 is what you want.

That is a Salisbury diff (as opposed to a DANA which some cars had). These people will sort out what you need.
The very best reconditioned brake calipers, jaguar axle componenets, hubs, differentials superflex polyurethane bushes also wheel bearing kits, drive shaft ujs, cobra axles for dax, ak,

Easiest way to identify the diff type

Dana no drain plug
Sailsbury/GNU has a drain plug

If you have trouble finding a Jaguar seal, Land Rover AAU3381 is an identical seal.

You'll find that differential in just about every Jaguar from 1961-1987 (except for the mark 2) and the XJS up to 1996. 6 cylinder sedans went to to a different differential in 1987, V12's in 1993.

Brilliant, thank you all very much for the information.

That's confirmed it's a Salisbury version as it has a drain plug and why the JLM527, CBC6923, AAU3381, AEU2515 etc numbers kept on popping up, they are the same!

Thanks again

Chris

Hi,
My diff will be out soon and I want to put new seals in it. My car is a 1988 so it is after the period when Dana's were used and they went to a GKN Power Lock. Everyone still seems to refer to this later diff as a Salisbury.
Are all the part numbers for seals/bearings in the later Salisbury/GKN Power Lock the same as the earlier pre 1985 Salisbury?
If so, I assume the pinion seal is JLM527/CBC6923 and the output shaft oil seal is JLM1264. Can anyone confirm if that is correct?
CO4HU-004-039 is stamped on my diff.
Thanks
