XJS turbo hydramatic transmission service shop in San Jose Ca. area?
 

I know that the tranny in my XJS is pretty much the same tranny I had in some of my Rivieras and Cadillacs and that service shops should be everywhere. I wonder if anyone can recommend one in my area that they have had good results from. I just started looking and at the first shop i inquired at I sort of detected an eye roll when I mentioned it was for my Jaguar. Just looking for a good knowledgeable honest affordable business. Should be easy to find, right?

when I had my transmission out I took it to leales transmissions.
on Keyes in near downtown.
they did a great job the rebuilt mine for 800 bucks I think I remember correctly.
and gave me a rebuilt torque converter.

One word of caution.....

If it comes down to replacing the torque converter....and a good rebuild job almost always does....have a conversation with the repair shop about what kind a converter they'll be using. Rebuilt converters are the norm, and that's OK....but you want a Jaguar-spec converter or equivalent, not a generic "Turbo 400" replacement.

A generic 400 replacement converter, such as you'd use behind Dad's old Chevy Impala, probably won't hold up against the 6500 RPM that the Jag V12 is easily capable of.

Of course, if you know that you'll never explore those high engine speeds, no worries.

Thanks for the advice. I think that I read that in Kirby's book too. The V12 is a high rpm motor. I'm hoping it won't be a complete rebuild.

I was buy rebuild kit from TCI auto. Not chip, but very strong.
