Xjs window adjustment
 

Guys, the xjs's windows are fowling the convertible top, and also sitting too far right and hitting quarter windows some. Windows go up perfectly when sitting in the car, but when I open door and go to close they are all misaligned somehow. (Even though there is no movement of the window itself)

Anybody had to do adjustments to the windows on xjs and have tips? Anything to do with battery being weak or something? I may need to get workshop manual since I don't see this issue in kirbys book.

I've taken several apart, and other than the adjustment that controls where the window stops travel up, I don't know that there are any. If the stop allows to window to go up too far, it will do what you describe. For both to do the same thing at the same time seems a little confusing to me.

I've taken the window motors and control assembly out of 3 xjs, all 89s. IMHO, the only way the windows can get out of alignment would be because the window tracks move, which is a possibility. Check when the door panels are off and when you raise the windows if the rear track moves slightly inward as the control arm raises. If it does, find the point at the bottom of the track that secures to the door itself. I will look again in the morning to see if I might find the culprit.

I agree with Ken. The track might be loose or there is wear on the glides or linkage

There's a whole section on the Jaguar Parts & Service CD which describes all the adjustments of both the front and rear windows on a convertible. When done correctly, it makes a huge difference to the sealing and wind noise when the hood is up.

Hello. I have solved the problem. The issue was with the rubber seal where the top of the window meets the convertible top. There is a product called Dupont Seal Saver that sells for $7. I applied the clear liquid with the applicator provided and the window immediately stopped catching on the seal (when closing the door with the window up) and causing window misalignment. A very simple fix. I guess the stuff cleans and softens the rubber. I did all of the seals on the car. Well worth the 10 minutes it took me. Hope this helps someone.
