2007 XK fluid leak
Noticed fluid/oil leak on my low mileage 2007 XK - located rear engine/front of transmission. Any thoughts?
Who made the V8 engines on the XK - is it a ford product? Thanks |
2007 XK fluid leak
2007 Fluid/oil leak - seems to be rear engine/transmission area - any thoughts?
Did Ford make the engine? |
When I had a oil leak on my 2007 it was on the front main seal and and oil was actually leaking and running down the underside of the motor making it
look like it was coming from the back. I had it replaced at a NAPA auto care center. |
Thanks - so a local shop is able to handle it rather than the dealer?
|
I believe Ford made the XK engine in Wales but on a special Jaguar production line. If I am wrong I am very sure someone will correct me!!
Still driving and maintaining my 2007 XK Coupe at age 84; my wife still driving her 2000XK8 conv. at 89!! so we have 173 years between us, is that some kind of record? Cheers, founder member Seattle Jaguar Club.......Adrian |

Did Ford make the engine? Ford did not and does not engineer/design the Jaguar engines. The current V6 and all V8 engines from the 4.0 litre to the current 5 litre were entirely designed by Jaguar BUT they were built under contract at the Ford engine plant at Bridgend. |
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X150 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.
The XK 4.2 engines were built at the self-contained Jaguar facility within the Ford Engine Plant at Bridgend in South Wales. Graham |

Did you check the transmission pan cover? They are plastic and mine cracked at like 20K miles. Had to do the whole pan/filter/fluid service to fix it.

They share the same genetics and many of the same parts. Huge family resemblance between the Ford modular V8 engines and the AJ series V8's.

I love a good conspiracy. :icon_couch:

yes, and that is because Ford copied parts of the Jaguar design - because the engines were built for Jaguar in the Ford plant, there was, shall we say, a bit of an information leak. |
To get back on track, mine just had the front lower crank case seal replaced at the dealer under warranty, they had my car for three days and replaced a cracked air intake upper tube, all new coolant and the seal, total warranty job was 900 bucks ( rip off) but hey under warranty I don’t care. |
Last winter I had an oil leak, which was dripping off the rear of the transmission pan, due to the slight angle the car sits in the garage. Had the car been totally level, it would have dripped off the rear of the block. Source of the leak was the valve cover gasket, however as I was disassembling to replace the gasket, I found that the lower bolt, closest to the firewall, that holds down the valve cover, was totally loose. Surprised it didn’t fall out. That bolt is a bitch to get to, so some previous idiot that removed and replaced the cover, didn’t tighten that one down (if yours turns out to be the same, maybe it was a factory mistake). Since I was that far into the gasket replacement, I did that, rather than simply tightening that bolt. I have a thread in this forum for my issue (hard to post links from my phone, but search for something like ‘Aw Crap, Oil Leak’). |

Thanks much - we moved from Naperville to Nashville 4 years ago.
Sound like this is a repair which a good local shop can do - rather than using the dealer? |
