2009 Head Unit in a 2008. Possible?

I asked this question in the iPhone thread but I thought it needed it's own.

I just got a 2008 XKR and I love it, but I also love my iPod music. I know I have the ACM as an option but I really don't like being limited to 6 playlists and having nothing of use on the screen while it is playing.

So my question to the resident Jag Techs on the forum. Can a 2009 HU be transplated into a 2008? I plan on visiting my local dealership soon to ask the same of them, but I thought I would ask the experts here first.

Thanks

No luck

I visited my dealership this past Friday and asked the question about swapping out head units. I was told that if even possible that it was not worth what it would cost in parts.

So armed with information from other JF users I decided to go with the ACM. I was a bit dissapointed to find that after installing it myself that I did need a service tech to enable it (even after the service advisor telling me it was plug and play). So after an extra $135, the ACM was up and working.

I mounted the USB and RCA connectors in the glove box, but I left the iPod/iPhone connector loose for now. I came across a Kuda leather mounting plate for a 07+ XK/XKR and if it does match my interior like they say it does, then I will go with that and the DICE DCR-50 iPhone mount. At least this way I can see what is playing on my iPhone screen, plus it gives me a secure mount for it.

I will post some pictues when I get further along.

fstick09, I've used Kuda bases in two previous cars and they make a good, quality product.

Installed!

I got the Kuda mount, DICE pass thru dock and ACM installed. Overall I am happy with the result. Here is the link to some photos:

I had to do a little modification to the mount to bend it to my will. I didn't like how high the DICE dock was going to sit on the mount with the ball joint type mount. To get around this I cut a circular hole in the mount to allow the ball on the back of the dock to sit flush. I also cut a rectangular hole under that for the ACM connector.

I am happy with the quality of the mount and the placement works out very well as you can easily access the iPhone screen with your elbow resting on the center console.

The only thing I am debating is whether or not to pick up a white paint pen and try and paint the stitching on the Kuda mount to match the rest of the interior or to just leave it alone.
