Default 2013 XKR Sun Visor

Has anyone replaced or repaired a sun visor on a 2013 XKR? Or, does anyone have a replacement - illuminated, left side, tan leather? Or, does anyone have a handbook or diagram showing how the sun visor is constructed. I would love any help. Thanks.

It might be useful to specify what’s wrong with it. If it won’t stay up, there’s a thread or two that discuss fixes, if you search for ‘visor’ you probably come across them.

Don't know if anyone is following this thread, but I have a visor problem. Anyone else experienced this? I can envision some repair techniques, but none easy. E.g., remove the upholstery, slip shrink tubing around it, reassemble. Any other ideas?

I'd remove the torn trim and wrap some plastic tape of the same or similar color around it and live with a cheap fix.

I recently replaced the driver's side sun visor on my XJ. It didn't stay up because the inner plastic mechanism cracked where it swivels. I had a trim shop look at it and he said that even if he epoxied it back together I'd be throwing my money away because it wouldn't be long before it broke again.

Beware of buying a used visor because it may be cracked internally and worthless.

A new visor is ridiculously expensive for what it is.

If you buy a new one from a Jaguar dealer, a replacement with the warning label is more expensive than one without the label. You don't need that overpriced label. My parts guy found that out when he was searching for the proper visor. It's an easy DIY installation in the XJ, and I presume it's the same for the XK.

This is the first car with a broken sun visor in over 50 years of driving. Shame on Jaguar for such poor quality.

I would probably just replace entire visor, but you could look into finding a plastic tube the right color and cut a small piece to put over the copper bar after removing the old plastic. Maybe something like this:

This should convince you to repair your sun visor instead of replacing it.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

. Based on my experience with tape wrapping wiring in tight places tells me it would be a bit tricky for this situation. I like the tubing idea. I'll drop by a hobby story and see if I can find anything. The one on the drivers side is fine, and seems to be soft rubber tubing. Failure only on the passenger side suggest it might have to do with where the PO parked... i.e., with the sun on the right.

Can someone tell me how to remove the visor and clip from the car?

It's a 2013 XK coupe.

Decided to send it to a parts repair shop in Sonoma, CA that I've used before ( Automobile Part Fabrication | Sonoma, CA - O.D.D. Parts Fabrication ) to have it fixed. Unfortunately, UPS lost it. Tracking shows it as having delivered it but Odd Parts says it wasn't received. I insured it for $300, but wasn't smart enough to have a signature required UPS is now investigating which will take 8-10 business days.

Just in case they can't track it down, does anyone know of a good source for late model Jaguar interior parts, new or used?

I had no luck when I looked for a used sun visor. Check with the Forum sponsors who sell new OEM parts and tell them you're a Forum member and ask for a discount. Compare their delivered price to your local dealer and the internet sellers.

The lost visor has been found (long story) and repaired. Jim Simpson of ODDParts fabricated a sleeve from bronze tubing. I believe he will soon post details at his website. The first thing he said was "Did you put that copper welding rode in there?" Apparently the dealer I bought it from got someone to repair it 'cuz it wasn't me, i said. The error made was slipping a soft plastic tube over it for color match or something, and it didn't hold up to interior temperatures in the Pasadena sun.
I'm thinking of having the drivers side done so they match

He charged about 1/3 the cost of the lowest price for a new visor.

BTW, he said the visor was also used in some Ferraris. They most commonly fail where the mirror light connector wires pass through the hinge. He has a fix, of course. His website is worth a visit: O.D.D. Parts, Sonoma CA

I don't often have reason to appreciate the English weather but we don't have wear issues on our sun visors.

For others reading this thread.. I've fixed this part of a visor on my Porsche 928 using plastic tubing where the OD matched the opposite visor, and the ID closely matched the metal bar on the visor, cut a thin slot in the plastic tubing with a very fine jewel saw and pop the tube over the metal bar. Done and done. I believe the fix cost me $10... $7 of which was shipping for the plastic tube.

I put some effort into that but couldn't find any tubing, regardless of material, that had the correct OD and correct ID. That's when I called Jim. He found bronze with the correct OD and something else with correct ID and small enough OD to fit inside the other one, then welded them together.

Jim said the visor did not originally have a metal rod at the free end. Must have been plastic that was either integral with the molded plastic body, or slipped into a hole in it. Perhaps someone here can confirm.

IOW, the original failure was probably NOT temperature related. Rather, someone probably grabbed the visor in the middle and yanked, breaking the plastic. Long ago, even when visors had a metal rod all the way through, I learned to pull it free from the clip with 2 fingertips and a thumb.
