2014 headlight retrofit

Hi everybody,

I love the 2013-2014 headlights, with the DRL leds.

Does anyone know if a retrofit on earlyer XKRs is possible? Is the outside shape exactly the same or does the bumper need to be rettrofitted too?

Of course, the wires would probably need to be modified, as on the backlights, but that's a second step...

You will need new bumper, new fenders and new mirrors. And of course the wiring.

Save your money and buy a 2013.

The cost for parts, installation, and painting will be much higher than you think and you may trigger electrical warning faults and you'll have additional expenses. You'll never recover your costs, and may have trouble selling a car that is so heavily modified. Changing the bumper and fenders is a red flag for significant front end damage.

Thank you guys.

It's indeed not worth it if I need to change so many parts... :-(

no mate, you have the wrong end of the stick

Your lights are much better. They ruined the lines of a XK with those new lights, in a feeble attempt to 'modernize' the car or keep up with the Germans. Lets face it what you love about the XK is its lines from the Etype, including the Etype headlights!

All those non-flowing sharp lines and led lights will attract is other males into german cars...but if you wanted to do that you would have bought an Audi.

here is something that will really help you celebrate the bird in hand; Unlike all other cars, including other Jaguars, your car OWNS everything it has on it. Every single design element of that car, especially the headlight shape are all original to Jaguar, just like a kidney grille and halo lights is to a BMW. Enzo Ferrari copied those headlights in the 1962 GTO, most desirable and expensive Ferrari ever sold.

I have a 2010 XKR and could have got the 2012 for much less. The 2010 has the perfect balance, ample new technology without resembling something other than a Jaguar.

If you want led running lamps, consider the air duct location for them, this way they serve some purpose at night by becoming fog lamps.

As always beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I started looking for my XK the 1st think I looked for was the 5.0L engine. As I started looking at 2010's and got more info on other changes I soon turned to the 2012 year series. This was the new headlight system and a few other simple changes that interested me. Also this was the last body changes for the series 2012-2015 and was in my price range. To me this was one of the few body styles that I think are close to perfect to my eyes. The other style is the typical wedge as I had with my Ferrari 308 GTB. Of course the one I'll remember as one of the best was my 1966 XKE coupe which my bride loved. So if the OP likes the latest version then consider trading for one but don't forget that the one you have is also a beautiful version.

I sold my 2011 XKR 175 and bought a 2013 XKR w/dynamic pack and performance exhaust for these reasons:

1. I wanted an XKR with the highest performance specifications. The dynamic pack has the same suspension and dynamics as the XKR-S. Same larger wheels as the XKR-S and same exhaust as the XKR-S
2. I like the LED modern headlights opposed to the bug look of the pre-2012 headlights. It is the law in Canada to have LED Daytime Running Lights on and the LED lights makes the XKR modern and less dated. As a bonus I own the last iteration of the model.
3. I wanted a rear view camera.

Although I loved my 175 I'm happy with my decision to upgrade to a 2013. My only complaint is that I can't drive my car year round in Canada.

I don't mind the 2010 lights - it's the 'cheek pouches' that bothered me when I was looking to buy. Those front-corner vents make the car look like a squirrel gathering nuts.

I've become accustomed to them now, and because mine are Black Pack on a dark grey car, they're not that noticeable. But I prefer the 2012+ triangular ones.

I would have been happy with any 2010+. I preferred the 2012 subtle changes though and was able to find one for a reasonable price. Most tend to prefer the last styling.

Remember the modern bumper facelift on the outgoing XJR- the current XJR made it look like a desperate attempt. Leaving the old XJR neither modern nor classic, even worse, a car clearly ashamed of its fantastic heritage. The XKR-S doesnt do anything nearly that drastic. However, there does seem to be a disease at Jaguar to run as far away from all things 'classic'- justifiably because they developed a reputation for being an old man's car. Ironically, its the running away and capitulation that reinforce those suspicions.

I understand their quandary, few if any 'millennials' appreciate the beauty and luxury of an interior in London Tan- or interiors that are unmistakably British leather. And thus they purposely did not make it available on the XKR-S nor the F-Type R. Meanwhile Ferrari is not confused about Italian craftsmanship and flaunts the interior colors from 40 years ago (pic below)

The one thing that Jaguar could learn from the Germans is that they have been buying British car manufacturers from Mini to Rolls Royce, not because they wanted to learn how to build unreliable cars inefficiently, rather they have been buying their way into things the British are known to excel in, the very thing Jag wants to run from. perhaps its a temporary departure just to shift focus on being modern and they will revisit traditions after doing so??

The 2012+ LED headlights have no amber. IMO they fit the car perfect.

Queen and Country 06-11-2015 03:47 PM

BTW, Ferrari leathers were always Connolly from England, supplier to Jag and Rolls.

I had my eyes on a 2011 XKR Black Pack, I did a touch of research and immediately changed my mind after seeing the LCI touch the headlights, front bumper, front and side grille/gill. My dollars landed on this b@stard. I love the headlights. LED markers have 2 stage brightness. You can see both when you unlock at night. Sugar and booger.
