Can anyone tell me where to attach cables to jump start battery 2009 XKR the manual is not clear. I know where to attach + but on which screw do I attach the negative...the are 3 visible screws in the spare tire pit ?

Attach the negative to the large main bolt that holds down the spare tire.

Abela,

I see you just joined the Forum. Welcome! You'll find a lot of useful information here.
Pictures speak 1000 words...

Remote Positive Terminal Access Panel (Left Fender)

Remote Positive Terminal Connection

Negative Remote Terminal in Spare Wheel Well (view obstructed by spare tire). This is NOT the bolt that holds down the spare wheel (although that might be a good ground; I'm not sure).

Hope this helps!

Thank you Stuart...I had drowned it... had to get it towed and it ended-up costing $500 at the Dealer...

Additionally, that pos. connector is an insulated bolt that extends thur the frame/body to the outside underneath the car. You will find a rubber cap over this outside pos. terminal.

You can use it for a quick jump start. I'm not sure I wound use it as a regular charge point because batt. gas may build up behind the batt. access panel in a closed boot .

tarheel,

You're absolutely right; if you connect your charger directly to the battery terminals you risk causing an explosion. Hydrogen gas can accumulate in the battery compartment even though it is vented. That's the reason for the remote battery terminals - to minimize the risk of explosion. A spark can occur while connecting to a battery terminal, but if you use the remote terminals that spark can't ignite the hydrogen gas in the battery compartment. Always use the remote terminals for charging; better to be safe than sorry!

Hydrogen gas is more powerful than most people realize. I remember my college physics professor's experiment in the stadium lecture hall with a small soap bubble filled with hydogen gas. As it floated towards the ceiling, he touched it with a lighted match attached to a very long pole. The resulting explosion blew out several windows! I think he didn't expect that, and it was a lasting memory for me.

Be safe. For more info, see my posts ##15 and 17: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...storage-85201/
