AC duckbill problem too
I've been reading a ton about the problem of water dripping under glovebox. My car is a 2010 XKR and I thought the problem was fixed by 2010? Before I start rooting around, there is a black material that the water is leaking through. What is easiest way to.remove? It feels like I can pull it out, but I am an ox when I start to "fix" things. One of the threads showed a guys car with black water. It's the dye from the material it's filtering through. Problem is that I have Carmel interior.
If the "black material" is on the engine transmission side of the firewall, I recommend cutting it with a serrated knife.
Others say put your hand in the seam but I found that to be impossible.
Make one cut six to seven inches deep immediately above the transmission seam.
Make a parallel cut 3-1/2 to 4 inches toward the passenger side (driver for UK).
Then rip the section of insulation clear.
Various methods have been used to clear the duck-bill.
Take your pick.
Remember that your fan motor will require attention.
Best of luck.

This guy had a novel approach to the duck problem:

I have one of those 2010 XKs' with the "fabric" over the transmission tunnel ceiling, covering the duck opening(?). Don't want to cut the covering and futz around blindly in there. When I get enough time together I'm going to try this scheme.
Meanwhile, keeping the towels on the floor...pathetic.

If you are talking about the felt under the glovebox then it is held in place by three plastic spring clips. You squeeze the tips together then pull them out but I have had no end of trouble trying to remove them so have resorted to pliers and have cracked at least one.
Once those are out you should just be able to pull it down and forward.

The felt under the glovebox is what I'm talking about. It's black and the water filters through it hitting the Carmel carpet. I will try and remove the clips. If not, then my ham handed approach will apply. I guess I have one of the 2010 models that they didn't change duckbill design. Thanks for the input folks.

Insulation on 2010 up appears to contribute to the old style duck-bill problem.
Ideally, remove a small circle of insulation at the duck-bill. Might be possible for an experienced duck-bill tickler.
I finally resorted to ripping insulation but the cut described is a better choice.
Once the insulation is removed, the borescope easily locates the duck-bill.
A suitable probe can cut or manipulate the part.
My problem was a clog that was trapped in the duck-bill.
So, I resorted to an aluminum safe cleaner to dissolve the sludge residing in the pan below the coil.
My solution included liquid cleaner, removing some transmission tunnel insulation, locating the duck-bill with a scope and manipulating the duck-bill by hand and with a probe.
This issue has been discussed in many threads. An hour or so reading is worthwhile.
Caution: the auxiliary drain solution has been de-bunked and a fan motor replacement or rebuild will be necessary.

My local dealer estimates $1200 to remove dash and fix ac drain hose. I haven't had this car a month and I need to replace headliner, washer pump and fix ac drain hose issue. It's a 10 year old car, but less than 30k miles. Oh yah, I also broke the seat lever on passenger side. Once I fix these, I sure hope I have a year, or so with no issues. Too much to ask?
