Accleration Problem

Accleration Problem
I do not know if this is normal, but, I am having something that I think is unusual with my 2013 XKR. When I am going very slowly 20-30 MPH and I press the accelerator very slowly and gradually, the car does not gain significant speed. My wife was the first one to notice this. I have duplicated the issue several times.
In other words, it does not kick down or accelerate when I depress the pedal. If I keep pressing the pedal, it will eventually down shift and pick up acceleration, putting me in the next county if I am not very alert.
1- Is this a normal situation? My wife complained because she says that he VW CC would accelerate with the amount of accelerator depression that she was doing.
2- This car has a torque converter, could this unit be defective and need of replacement?
3- Should I pump the accelerator to sort of wake up the acceleration mapping program? There is probably something in there that controls acceleration signals.
I find this to be at best annoying, but, at worst dangerous because if I were to find myself in a situation where I need a quick acceleration it would not be there. Lets not go into the shift paddles, they should not be an issue in this case.
As always, thank you for your input.

Thank you for the posts.
Problem kind of solved. The tech advisor at Jaguar said that this is part of the driving style learning that the car has. This has another name, but, I can not remember it.
I think that the solution is, if one foresees a need for acceleration, to carefully use the paddles.

I think he's talking about Driver Type Recognition (a.k.a. the hooligan detector), but that only operates in "S" mode, according to my (MY2011) manual. There are a couple of ways to sharpen throttle response:
Frankly, I just boot it
- Put the transmission in "S" - that keeps the revs higher, though you'll burn more fuel
- Select Dynamic Mode - that increases the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal, among other things
Frankly, I just boot it
