Adaptive Headlight Icon
I have a 2010 XKR. Today the amber flashing headlight icon came on. The owner's manual says it indicates a problem with the adaptive headlight system. Anyone here have this issue and is it going to be expensive or outrageously expensive to repair?

Turn off the car, give each headlight housing a firm rap with the heel of your hand, lock and unlock the car and try again.
Mine gives a warning probably once every 60-120 days. Another option is to replace the headlight assemblies, about $3,000 per side. |
Cee Jay is exactly right. Mine will do it in spurts where it happens every day for a couple of weeks and then goes away for a year. Lock the car, smack the headlight with your hand a couple of times (as hard as you can), unlock the car and start it, and it should be back to normal.

I've come across quite a few threads relating to the Adaptive headlights, is this an issue that's common to all models XK/ XKR and
MY'S 2007 through 2015? |
+1 with Cee Jay and tberg. No big deal.

MY'S 2007 through 2015? Some times, not often, the controller on the backside of the headlight unit goes bad and must be replaced, but those are easy to diagnose by swapping the controller side-to-side, and are usually obvious by looking at the headlights/patterns, where one light doesn't move correctly or at all. This is not very common. |
Adaptive headlamp swivel motor
same issue. Cause was broken swivel mechanism in headlamp. Purchased brand new headlamp from Welsh for 1/3 dealer price. Working now as designed |
I am having the same issue. The light icon is on and both my headlights point at the ground. I tried the tap on method a few times but no go :( Its strange because only 1 light was doing it at first and the message would come and go as it reset itself now all the sudden both are pointed down. Is there any type of programming or reset? I did change the battery in the middle of all this happening.

Wouldn't you know it, I commented earlier today about how it's been about a year since the warning light has come on, and then as I pull into my driveway about 15 minutes ago, and it comes on. I turned off the car and locked, pounded the two lights, got back into the car and started it, and the warning was still there. I then repeated the process and warning disappeared as predicted. Back to normal now.

Hi all,
I also wrote on the forum about my intermittent AFS issue (amber blinking warning light & left headlight pointing down). Latest attempt to fix was to ensure that the mass connection behind the wheel liner near the left headlight was really ok. I had my mechanic remove the front left wheel liner and clean & retorque this mass connection. This mass connector is infamous for causing various problems on XK with lights such as indicators. Not sure if also AFS may be affected by it. But it was worth a try and for the time being I didn’t get the AFS warning anymore since then (however only one month ago). If both headlights are pointing down, a possible culprit could also be the AFS control module located in right A-pilar. There is a TSB out there on this, search forum. Personally, I have not read much about the 2 modules mounted behind the headlights to cause these AFS issues, but keen to hear about details if available. Br, ter |

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. I've spent the last day and a half beating on the headlights and locking/unlocking the car to no avail. Looks like a trip to Jaguar repair.

BEFORE you go there, arm yourself with some knowledge...
Do one or both lights aim weird? Do they move at all when first on or while turning? If only one is a problem, it may be the controller on the back of the light assembly, and you could verify that by removing both headlights and swapping the controller thing and see if the problem either follows the controller (simple fix) or stays with the same headlight (larger problem). |

is this welshent.com? Can you indicate the purchase price? I only find there B-grade headlights at approx. $900. Thanks! ter |
My local Jaguar independent just ordered the Welsh replacement and it will be installed next week for $1150. BYW, I highly recommend Jaguar Motorsports in Delray Beach.

I’ve read elsewhere that turning the wheel when engine on, from lock to lock several times can help. Don’t know if it’s true or not , worth a try?

Yeah, that's on an old X100. The X150 lights come out in about two minutes.
I was reading this thread earlier today, and noticed the ad at the bottom of my screen, had to take a screenshot... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...8c33d7aadb.png |
Huh, ya think your phone picked up my Dog Avatar? (that was Booger). That'd be sorta creepy if they do that...
