Default Adding auto folding mirrors.

So @LJRXKR just gave me another side quest in his reply to the security thread.

Anyone think, without messing too much up, I could put power folding mirrors on my 2008?
I do now have a 2011 screen and ICM flashed to work with my 08, so the menu option I’d think would be there.
Guessing control unit, wiring and the mirrors and mount.
I did search but nothing was specific and detailed to my situation.

Just a crazy thought as we have a house with the annoying individual doors and it’s tight.

all the x150 have the power function wing mirrors option however the earlier models will need the function manually turned on in SDD

You would have to procure all the wiring to go along, and that may not be too easy. Plus the mirrors of course.

Figure a small area to paint and watch the pickaparts.
Good thing I have the wiring diagrams.

Thinking spring project, but will research until then or until someone here says “can’t be done”.

I can be done. Each mirror will run you between $300-$500 though. That was enough to make me walk away when I looked into them.

Steve, how'd you do that? I have an 07, there's no motor in mine. I am confused.

There's a function in SDD where you can toggle power mirror function to the on position
Mine has completely stock standard wing mirrors

CCF change didn't do anything in mine. dealer said I needed motorized mirrors. Ah well, too cold to try it out now anyway.

Hmmm interesting I wonder if only the Australian spec'd received the motorized motors in the earlier series so odd

Yeah my guess as Cee Jay pointed out, the trick will be the harness. And there has to be some sort of control module between.
So Sean said 3-500 + a harness + control, maybe wire in a fuse. May be cost prohibitive…

The motor in this case, is the one that moves the mirror glass (up/down/left/right).

Hi
my UK 2006 XK ( MY 2007) has folding mirrors. Not sure if it was a Standard feature though

Interesting. Maybe they equipped them on RHD cars, as most would be sold in the UK, and they assumed that most would have only narrow places to park. Australia got the folding mirrors as a consequence. LHD cars, mostly going to North America, would generally have wider parking spaces, so didn’t need folding mirrors?

That was my point. My car is less automatic folding mirrors. Thats ok, gives me the opportunity to walk around it and fold them by hand.

Same here...

Sounds like opening a can of worms ...

Keep it simple...

Not really that great of an option.

I agree. On my 05 SV8, they were a must have because that thing was a gunboat. the XK is much narrower and actually keeping them extended seems to help when it comes to other cars parking next to me (they give a little space surprisingly).

At any rate, the power foldback mirrors were an option in 07 and guessing Steve had them and didn't realize it.
