Default Adjust speed limiter

I am an old feller new to forums, so please forgive me if I breach any protocols. I have a 2015 Jaguar XK and would like to bump up the speed limiter a bit. It cuts the engine out around 95 mph and startled me the first time when passing two semi trucks on the lonely Nevada highway. Can I do it myself or do I need to go to a specialist? I live in Cave Creek, AZ.

Larry, there's no way the speed limiter should cut in at 95, I've taken my 2014 XKR to 125 without incident and so should you be able to.

So questions

1) did you buy new?
2) How long have you owned?
3) Fully service history?
4) When last serviced?
5) Warranty?

As said at the start, your limit should be 155, so cutting out at 95 seems a little odd and somethings definitely wrong

Correct, the Speed Limiter doesn't do anything at less than 155 mph.
Now, if you were using paddles to pass and were in Sport mode, then the engine Redline may have been met.
What would engine revs be at 95 mph in probably third gear? Right around 6500 I'd think, so that may be one thing.
Other than that, there should be No Reason whatsoever that you would have had any problem...... unless you DO have a problem, like a broken car.
I think maybe you should try again, and make sure you don't hit redline while in SPORT mode.

I believe he is referring to the ASL.

Thanks for the feedback. Bought the jag new and it only has 3500 miles on it. Never been serviced, but maybe I should start with that and see if the limiter can be adjusted. I was not in the sport mode when it cut out.

Ah, ASL. I truly didn't think anyone used that thing. I actually forgot it existed.

Well if THAT is the case, Works As Advertised. As far as what the Factory Max was set at, I'd say disable the thing and forget that it's there.

Larry,
You have a button on the center console labeled ASL.
Its set your limit at 95.
Read about it here in the owners manual page 158
http://www.mediafire.com/file/zwfh7f..._02_30_101.pdf

Thank Graham for hosting the owner's manual on his account. Its incredible that Jaguar wont do the same.

BTW its a very useful feature if you want to drive in a spirited way in a strict area without having to monitor the speedometer.

My understanding is that the ASL does not function unless you've pressed the button after starting the car.

Apologies on hijacking this thread a little but it reminded me of my car sounding a "beep" when I exceed 75mph, no speed restriction occurs. Any ideas what that beep feature is and how to disable it?

This is what I remember when playing with it.

Also a few seconds with the throttle in the kick down position just past full throttle and will over ride the ASL.

When I bought my 2007 last year, I found that the ASL button was stuck in the depressed position. Maybe that is the problem the OP has with his car. My solution was to spray some WD-40 into the switch to free it up.

That position on the center console is really a key place for such a stupid function...

correct. Once ignition is turned off, ASL is deactivated and memory is cleared.

correct. Applying sudden, rapid acceleration (kickdown) will suspend ASL.

Then is it possible that the OP hit the rev limiter . This just seems strange that the symptoms were similar to either the ASL or rev limiter.

My 10-year old grandson can't resist pushing buttons. Here's how I stopped him from pressing the ASL button.

One other possibility- the traction control engaged.
Thats what it does when the rear-end is about to step out, it will cut throttle completely.

ASL is extremely useful when one commutes on a road with lots of speed cameras, in the winter, and has read that using cruise control in slippery conditions is inadvisable.

Or if it's snowing a bit, and the car states "ACC SENSOR BLOCKED", disabling cruise control completely...
