ANOTHER airbag light question
 

Hello all

My airbag light stays on. I've been doing some research on here, looks like it could be anything from a battery issue to a loose connection to a clock spring issue. I have a couple questions.

1. My heated steering wheel doesn't work. Could this also point to a clock spring problem? All the other controls work fine. (The heated seats suck too but thats unrelated).

2. Can I use SDD to re-set the light?

I'd lay money on it being clockspring related but you can also check the codes to see what's popping up. On mine it coded for incorrect resistance through the firing circuit which tells me the clockspring is breaking down. My volume also changes at one spot of the wheel every couple months. It hasn't become enough of a nuisance to fix yet.

I reset the light with SDD Monday night, it's been off since.

It's back, and has been back for a while.

SDD gave me the code B0070-1B which is "Driver safety belt pretensioner deployment control"

Searching on here there's talk of loose wires under the seat. Yesterday I unbolted the seat and tilted it forward, I didn't find anything loose. Is there a particular plug I should be looking at? Or another connection in the car?

I don't think the heated steering wheel goes through the clock spring. Your code is specific to high resistance @ Driver safety belt pretensioner deployment control. The restraint control module is located between the seats under the trim of the transmission tunnel. CA068 is the connector there. The other connectors are under the seat where you looked and the pretensioner. But since those parts are typically immovable, your probably looking at the clock spring.

Any idea what resistance the module expects to see? I wonder if I could put a resistor in the plug from the module and see what happens.

I don't and can't find the pinpoint tests for this code, but with the help of the interwar, this page may get you somewhere. Reference s to an 07 S-Type, with pinpoint tests for a Lincoln and a solution was resistance from Mazda spec:-)

I just replaced both sides of my XK's pretensioners and the process is very easy. Although mine were actually deployed due to a minor accident where the steering wheel air bag did not go off but the pretensioners did. You can either have them rebuilt for about $50 each or you can just go on Fleebay and pick them up for as little as $30 each. I installed mine and surprisingly did not have to get the SDS module reset. Typically, when an airbag goes off a hard reset of the SDS module must be done and I wasn't sure if just having the pretensioners activated would require the same but when I hooked them up the air bag light went off immediately. Surprisingly, it did not even require the use of an OBD scan tool to reset as it did it automatically. There may well be some historical error codes still left in the system but at least the light went off.

I just replaced my clockspring for the same problem all good now

Over the weekend I took out the drivers seat. All the connections seemed fine. I used my multimeter and verified I had resistance on the pretensioner and seat heating pads. All good. Put the seat back in.... and no airbag light!!!! Heated seat still doesn't work, but hey I'll take it!
