project done! got a mirror from a mini van that was large enough. some scratches on the bottom of it so I couldn't use the 'warning' at the bottom of the mirror ( take some glass cleaner and cloth to the scrap yard so you can clean the mirror and look for clarity).
used my multi tool to cut away the mirror housing so I could get to the silicone adhesive holding the mirror to the internal housing frame.
then I cut down the mirror with my glass cutter and grinder and used silicone to glue it over the existing mirror. that way I can remove it if I need to without a lot of trouble and still retain the stock mirror.
readjusted the side mirror and now I see my blind spot no problem.
