Default AUX input with Bluetooth for X150, you don't need an ACM

I'd always suspected this but never got around to actually hooking it up.

Jaguar sold the ACM (Audio Connectivity Module) as an accessory for the X150's up to 2008, to give you AUX, iPod & USB inputs, once the dealer enabled the AUX input in the car.

This was not needed in the 2009-onward models, since the Portable Audio Interface for iPod/USB was available from the factory.

Well if you enable the AUX input (for the ACM) it's possible to plug in directly, you don't need the ACM hardware.

OK it's just an AUX input, you can control the volume, and that's it. As I understand it the ACM would let you skip tracks and folders of USB sticks via the steering wheel or radio panel.

But if you want AUX, this is easy enough. And it gives the possibility for other things like Bluetooth streaming.

For the 2006-2009 models you will need the dealer, or someone with SDD, to enable the AUX input.

For the 2010-onward cars the function to enable the AUX input is missing in SDD, but like the reverse camera activation, there are ways around this, outside of the dealers...

How do you plug in?

I made an adaptor harness to plug into the back of the radio.

Lucky I had the matching terminals for this connector in my collection, so I could crimp new terminals on, and fit them into the factory connector at the back of the radio.

But actually i got the idea, because you can buy AUX input cables for Volvos, which are very similar to the radios in the X150's... but not exactly the same...

So actually, I bought one of those for the Volvo's, and modified it to match the pinout of the Jag radio, the Volvo version does not work in the Jags, the pinouts are different, despite being more or less the same head unit.

There is also a version with a Bluetooth receiver;

You don't get any control over the phone with these, but it does let you stream music.

Anyhow I can make these simple RCA with the suitable terminals on them, to just plug in to the factory connector, if you just want RCA's..

I've ordered a bluetooth version like above to see if it can be re-worked to function in the X150's.

In any case, this might solve some people's problems!

Brilliant!! Solves my problem.

The 19pin apple connector also has 2 pins for audio L&R. I have tried it unsuccessfully.

Now that you have found aux in, any BT receiver will work. I would look for bt5.0 there is a night and day difference in speed and capacity.

*looks at brand new ACM on my counter waiting to be installed*

NOW you tell me

I'll just tell myself that I still get steering wheel controls and try to be happy.

Nice work!

Could you elaborate?

The X150 model range is split in the SDD diagnostic tool. Grouped into 2006.5MY to 2009MY (vins B00001 to B32792) and 2010MY to 2015MY (vins B32793 to B56794) separately.
Because the ACM was a dealer fit accessory for the pre-2009MY cars, there is a function in SDD to "Add Auxiliary Audio Input" for the 2006.5MY to 2009MY cars, which is an automated process that edits the Car Configuration File (CCF), enabling that feature.
Even though the ACM was never installed in the 2009MY cars (because they came with the Portable Audio Interface for iPod/USB) the routine is there (because SDD groups the 2006.5MY and 2009MY together).
So the routine to enable the AUX input works in a 2009MY car, same like the 2006.5 to 2008MY.
JLR removed this routine from SDD for the 2010MY-onward cars, it's simply not there.
It is possible to manually edit the CCF and enable the AUX input in the 2010MY-onward cars but manual CCF-editing is locked out in SDD for dealers, also in any cracked/pirated SDD you buy on eBay or online sellers.
You need Engineering Mode / Coded Access, or an unlocked CCF master file, to manually edit the CCF using SDD.
This is the same process for enabling the reverse camera, enabling voice controls, enabling DAB+ digital radio, removing the speed limiter, and all the other retrofits and mods that i've done.

Thanks guys. Yes I am looking at making these available for sale.

The first question for me is if people will buy at the price point that I need to make this worth my while, to buy them in, modify them, package them with an instruction sheet, pack them in an envelope and take them to the post office.

If the bluetooth version is $120 AUD (~$85 USD, ~£66 GBP) plus postage of $8.50 AUD (~$7 USD, ~£5 GBP) would people be interested? Too expensive? Too cheap?

Bear in mind you will have to take the car to a Jaguar dealer and get the AUX input activated (whatever they will charge you for that).

I'd prefer to make just one version, the bluetooth, even though there are other possibilities with RCA cable, 3.5mm male plug, or even a panel mount AUX socket.
The reason for only bluetooth is it's quite a fast & easy DIY to just plug the bluetooth version into the back of the radio, whereas if you want to fit an AUX socket in the armrest there is a lot more disassembly, and cutting.

And doesn't everyone just use bluetooth these days anyhow?

A panel-mount AUX socket in the armrest will take a couple of hours to install, whereas the bluetooth is 10 minutes work. Worth mentioning that the "plug & play" version of the harness with AUX panel or RCA's, won't be much cheaper than the bluetooth, maybe $5 less, most of the costs are my time to modify the harness.

First I'm good with my setup, but some thoughts before my two cents. FWIW, nothing is better for me than long drive in my XK listening to tunes out in the country.

1) I started with no ACM in my 07. That just sucked.

2) Purchased and installed a used ACM for around $225 USD. I activated myself through SDD but suspect a dealer or indy would charge a minimum of 30 minutes so call that $60 - $75 - total $285 - $300 USD.
ACM's are still available new for around $300 USD new and not much cheaper used if you can find them.

3) Then I moved on to the Portable Audio Interface retrofit, thanks to you and Jeremy. Parts for that were the AUU, some MOST connectors and the Volvo cables to the center console. All told roughly $325 and a lot of hand holding from you guys with SDD. No dealer will help with that. It can't be done without help from the forum.

Both options are best suited for older iPod's though they function less smoothly with Android phone's (no display function on the screen for those).

4) This option you just created - BT is the better choice than hard wired imo and BT5 if you can find it. Volume can be controlled in the car as you mention, but the beauty of this solution is it's compatibility going forward with virtually any phone.

There are music players that can be controlled by voice. So even though there's still no display, you can voice command to next track, next playlist etc... You don't need to touch the phone and I personally only look at my folders and playlists before I start driving. I never putz with that while driving. It takes your eyes off the road for too long.

My two cents, if I didn't have my retrofit I'd jump on this in a heartbeat. $100 USD is reasonable. It's an easy DIY install, (even for those who still own a VCR and it's still blinking 12:00) + activation.

Thanks for the feedback Sean.

Let's call it $85 USD for the bluetooth harness then.

From what I can tell it is BT 4.1, not BT 5 though.

I finished a batch of these last night, so they are ready to sell / ship now.

I spent an hour or so testing one out in my XKR this morning, whe sound quality is amazing, very clean, high quality.
In my car with the B&W system you have the Dolby Surround function via AUX (I presume it will be the same on the Alpine system).

Really surprised me how good it sounds!

To answer some questions raised;

- It does not give you any control over the phone, just audio from the phone into the AUX input.
- It does not automatically connect each time you get in the car, you have to go to the bluetooth settings in the phone and connect.
- The phone will actually stay connected to the adaptor once you've locked the car, the phone will keep "playing" you need to stop it yourself. It's not until the car goes to sleep that the power to the radio is disconnected and the BT receiver shuts down.
- There is no whine or noise, with the music paused on the phone and the volume cranked up can't hear anything, also with engine running, driving around, etc
- No change to the FM reception as far as I can tell, seems to be the same as before.

I've put these up on eBay now, https://www.ebay.com/itm/293110516430

Cambo deserves a huge shout out for discovering that the audio input can be enabled without the ACM. And then an even bigger thank you for creating this quality, economical Bluetooth streaming unit.

I installed one today for a local (Washington DC metro area) owner with my SDD system and it went smoothly and worked beautifully.

If anyone in the Metro DC area would like Bluetooth streaming installed (2007 through 2009 XK or XKR only) please contact me. I have a few more of Cambo's units available here in the States.
