Sometimes just Googling the part number works magic.

That looks like an old-timey vacuum operated diaphragm egr.
But why the hell would EGR be routed that way? Why would it not be on the intake?

What is that rubber tube?

Further research shows it's just the valve that takes hot inert exhaust gases and feed them into the throttle body to reduce the emissions during certain situations. For some dumb reason on my XKR the line runs down by the cats and back up to the throttle body. Maybe it's just longer so the gases can be cooled since the aluminum lines are covered in aluminum insulation.

I dont believe hot or cold air matters here.

EGR is the same as air brake. You are feeding carbon dioxide to slow the engine down.

But my point was that most EGR's made in the last 20 years have been an electronically controlled solenoid. I.e. an electric valve. I have tons of them laying around here. Common GM problem.

Also cleaning out the egr track in the intake manifold is essential. None of this makes any sense. You may not have the right part.

Tommy can you be sure the part actually has coolant pipes going to it as you first described.

Default hi

No I am not sure it is a coolant hose, but it connects to the underneath of the part in pic and then disapears down the side of the radiator towards bottom of car.Cannot see where it connects too.I am in the procces of replaceing all water hoses hence the question. What is the purpose of that hose.?. Tommy.

It goes to the vacuum solenoid. The rubber hose actuates the EGR valve, nothing more.

Hi Rancho
Do you mean the long hose pipe that disapears under the car Seems a pretty big hose just to do that.?
Tommy.

Default Found it.

  1. Secondary air injection valve
  2. Secondary air injection pump.
  3. There are combined into the one unit.
