Default Brake Caliper Logo Plate //R

This is a bit odd:

I picked up this '07 XKR, and all of the brake calipers' logos are 'half-present'. I snapped a pic:

You can see the ghost of the 'R', so my question is: was the 'R' a decal, because the stripes are painted--and clearly still brilliant. The ghost of the 'R' looks like it may have been due to adhesive.

So, my other question: how the heck would you fix this?? I assume the plate gets a bit toasty, so a typical vinyl decal wouldn't cut it. I've scoured the interweb looking for a metallic diecut substrate with high-temp adhesive, and obviously found nothing. If I wasn't so jacked up on Pop Rocks and Rockstar, I'd try to hand-paint it.

Thoughts? Words of advice? Name and number of a decal shop? Any and all feedback will be truly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the link! I'm going to attempt the hand-paint route. I'll post pics!

(BTW: I cannot PM anyone yet--still trying to prove that I'm not spam.)

Great! I'm looking forward to full access!

So, I took matters into my own hands. I think I may redo them with vinyl--like the gent did in the thread you pointed me to earlier. I hand-painted these, and they're super sharp, but I can't go through hand-cutting four more stencils when I change the color of the calipers next weekend. Ha!

This was my process:

Not a bad way to spend a gloomy Saturday afternoon in Central Florida.

Cheers!

Default Good job!

I thought I was the only one puzzled over this.

I just got new rotors and pads and was thinking about painting my calipers and had noticed the partial "R" on the calipers. I was just scouring the Jag parts websites thinking I could buy a replacement plate with a new "R" in place.

Seems like there should be some solution that isn't as labor intensive as what you went through!

So is the "Ghost" R intentional?

On the rear brake calipers, the "R" logo image is a part of a clip that can be purchased through Jaguar or Jaguar Parts Online (Part # C2P12429). The front image can not be purchased, but there is a shop that can replicate the image and forward to you to use, if you want the information or find this useful, please contact.

Default Solutions for the "R" Emblem

Again for the rear brake calipers, the plate can be ordered from Jaguar and online if you know the part number (C2P12429) and if you contact Greg Sommers of Sign Pro, (301 470-9800) he can aid with getting you the front decals. I've included pics of my calipers for your viewing pleasure

No, it appears to be just residue from whatever was OE. Served as a useful scale guide for me, however!

If anyone wants the vector file (.ai) PM me. (Vector files are useful for reproduction of the logo by a vinyl shop, etc.)

Yikes... That part #C2P12429 comes up at $50. I'm amazed that some parts are silly expensive and others cheap, a new grille is $87. I will give Greg a call Monday about a set of 4 decals. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

I thought abou putting the //R emblem from the back of the vehicle, it is only $7.57. Of course, the vinyl on my //R always peels off and no telling if it can take the heat.

The R on all 4 of my 2007 XKR brake callipers has faded so that it can't be seen. I guess this is Jaguar using cheap paint to save money, or they haven't tested it properly.

Unfortunately this is painted on, so I would have to re-paint to get the R's back.

I know that my local Jag body shop carries the stencils to repaint the logos on the caliper. Calipers get hot and they can actually burn paint off as time goes on... and lighter colors tend to darken as well. it'll be interesting to see how well/long the logos stay good on mine. Especially after this summer and a track event or two... /innocent whistling

The only place I found them online was on Russian Jaguar parts websites. I call Orlando Jag and found the price that way. I did my own--not due to cost, but due to the wait of ordering. I'm impatient.

The best resource I've found for OE parts is this online catalog: Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com

In order to get the plates for the rear from Jaguar, it can be purchased from any dealership using that part # or go to Gaudin Jaguar Parts Online (Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com). As far as the front calipers, again a fantastic source is Gregg Sommer at 301 470-9800. He has the perfect stencil cut out and uses high temperature tape and it replicates the original design and color almost to perfection.

Does the caliper need to be removed to replace this plate?

Thanks! Maybe I will end up doing a brake job anyway because I seem to have this horrible creaking sound coming from the front brakes. Probably just needs some grease of some sort...

You're welcome!

There is actually a TSB out to correct the creaky front pads. I have the TSB notice and procedure if you would like it; it essentially shows you where to apply various greases and lubricants to the pads so they don't creak at low speeds and while turning into parking spots, etc. Since you'll be fussing with the pads anyway you may as well hit up the TSB!

PM me if you'd like that TSB and procedure.
