Broken Jag Broken Heart
My pride and joy 07 XKR is dead. I live in San Diego CA, somehow I ran low on oil and threw a rod. My motor is toast. The body and interior is 10 out of 10 so its worth fixing. I would appreciate any suggestions for motors and mechanics. So bummed right now. Just got an oil change last month. can' believe this happened...

Sorry to hear this. Any idea where the oil leaked out from?

Shops first guess is some valve gave way. I don't recall the name of the valve. Trying to find a crate motor to drop in her. Wish I could upgrade to the 5.0 :/

Sorry for your loss... I think you are the 2nd person on this forum this has happened to.
Were you on the track? |
Sorry to read this. Is it the same engine across all the R models of same era? I'd would think a used engine is not all that much.

Six years ago when I purchased my 5.0L XKR, it needed a new engine from the previous owner's lack of checking oil level. My mechanic located a 5000 mile engine from a wrecker and it cost about $6000 back in 2013. Since the 4.2L engines should be much more plentiful, they should be out there and quite a bit less money. Good luck. If you need someone to put it in and can get it towed up to Los Angeles, obviously, my mechanic can do it as he's worked on all three of my Jags for many years. He can probably find you the engine as well. Let me know if I can help.

I don’t know how helpful this will be..
I through a rod years ago on my g35 coupe. – I was referred to a guy by the name of Angel who ran one of the Chula Vista Auto scrap yards. – He swapped out my engine for one is 42k miles for around $2500. I got my car back within two days and they did great work. This being said, the Jag engine will be quite a bit more than the Infiniti engine. I do know if Angel doesn’t have the engine in his yard, he will locate one for you. I do not recall which yard it was. But I would assume, with yelp and a few calls/questions. You could knock it out. I would assume a number of them do this sort of thing on an ongoing basis. https://www.yelp.com/search?find_des...la+Vista%2C+CA Best of luck! |
Andrew,
Check your private messages, I sent you the information you requested. I also spoke to the mechanic who did my engine replacement, and told him to expect a phone call from you. Let me know how you make out. |
As a future reference has the reason for the loss of oil been determined. It seems there would be some tell tale signs of any type of leak or at least a noticeable loss during the weekly oil volume check. Is there a weakness somewhere in the oil system that caused this issue. Finding the cause would help others in looking at specific areas that could avoid this in the future. Best of luck to the OP and a replacement engine should be available through an internet search.

There is a difference between a low oil flow situation, and low oil level, sometimes they get conflated.
AlexJag, have known a place to do that once. |
