Can I remove the satellite antenna ?
I am thinking of removing the satellite antenna from the back deck of my '09 xk coupe. With both a satellite radio, and a navigation system that are obviously ten years obsolete, (even Jaguar has not updated their own Navagation disks in six years) I no longer see a need for what I consider an unsightly and unesssary appendage. I would have a professional body shop do the work. My question is what else in the car depends on this antenna, and if i have it removed, will it affect the operation of the car other than the radio and navigation systems?

Not 100% sure about the North American cars, but the rest of the world 2009 XK does not have the dome in the middle of the bootlid.
The GPS antenna in mine is under the spoiler on at the very rear of the bootlid. You can see it here http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2018...5791d6bca7.jpg The workshop manual shows this as the location for the GPS, does not say there's a different version for North America. I believe the dome antenna is only for the SAT radio. In the later UK/EU cars the dome was used for the L-Band DAB Radio, was not fitted to all vehicles. But the workshop manual I have makes no mention of SAT Radio at all, so.... ? I'm 99% sure the dome is only for SAT radio in your car. |
Thank You Cambo. So maybe an egg shaped antenna as big as my fist is a North America thing. If what I have (I wish I had a photo to share) is just for the satellite radio and navigation system then I would have no problem removing it? But if because of it's size and shape has other function I may not be able to.

I'm 99% sure that dome antenna is only for SAT radio and nothing else, the GPS receiver is under the spoiler.

Cambo is correct. You will be left with 2 screw holes when you remove it. I never renewed my subscription and wish I didn’t have one either, it looks like crap, especially next to the rear spoiler.

Single cable running to it, 100% it's only for SDARS / SAT Radio
