Catback Exhaust While Retaining Active Functionality?
Hello All,
I've searched to see if this specific question has been answered and didn't find anything. I'm interested in getting a little more noise out of my 2011 XKR175 by installing an aftermarket catback exhaust, perhaps a custom one from a local shop. I understand that certain options like Spires have the ability to retain the active exhaust valve functionality, but they are quite expensive. I was wondering whether it is possible to install a new exhaust system downstream of the baffles so that the functionality is retained. I'm also wondering whether this functionality would be as robust as it was previously since the system would not be optimized for this specific configuration. Has anyone done this who can comment on whether or not the aftermarket system was still quiet on the highway when the valves are closed but louder than factory when open? Thanks! -mushroom09 |
I cannot remember if the 175 came with the PAE mid-pipe X-Pipe , but if it didn't that could be an option for you. By removing the two mid-pipe resonators and replacing with x-pipe, you should hear an increase in your exhaust.

If you already have the PAE and want more noise, consider an exhaust cut-out. See: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...valves-217000/

TexasTraveler: I'm not 100% sure but I don't think I have the performance active exhaust, just the standard for the XKR. I'll look into the X-pipe. Would that not cut out the area of the exhaust that includes the active valves?
Stuart S: I'll look into the exhaust cut-out, although I don't think I have the PAE. Thanks for the help! |

I would just spend the money for a proper well designed exhaust. Jag is not a car to roll dice on a home made exhaust. If you ever sell the car, you'll still get 50%+ the price of selling that exhaust by itself.

That makes much more sense, thanks for the pic!

The x-pipe PAE does make a difference - when the active valves are open, it's basically open pipes from the cats. But it's still acceptable and drone-free when the valves are closed.

When I switched to 200 cell CATS the exhaust note and decibel increased.
