Default Center console won't open 2007 XK

I had my wife's XK convertible detailed today. When I got into the car to drive home I tried opening the center console where my sunglasses were kept. Low and behold, now it won't open. The cover slides perfectly fine back to expose the cup holders but the latch won't release the cover. Any suggestions from the forum are greatly appreciated. I did a search and found nothing on this subject. Thanks!

Just a guess - if your center console was pretty ful when you put your sunglasses in they might have gotten caught in the mechanism. While trying to open the lid normally, carefully use a thin, flexible piece of plastic to slide in between the lid and the bin and move it around while pulling up on the lid. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will open.

I find that on occasion I encounter the same issue with my 07. When it happens, I slide the cover back over the cup holders then I (rather fast) start to slide it back but I also start to put upward pressure on the cover and it opens up for me. Good luck.

Stuart S:

Do you have a sliding cover that extends over the 2 side-by-side cup holders?

I have a felt trim that goes around the cup holders but no sliding cover of any kind. See attached image.

I have always thought there might be a sliding cover because of the 2 grooves in the forward felt trim.

If you have a sliding cover over your 2009 XKR PE cup holders can you take a photo and post it?

I see the OP is speaking about a 2007 model, so our's may only have the felt trim.

Rich, yours does also. Pull up slightly on the front Chrome tab and slide the whole top armrest straight forward.

Tried that over and over last night. I can't get it to budge. I guess I'll have to get some new sunglasses and then take it to the dealership. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Thanks, Cee Jay.

Owned the car for 3+ years and never knew the darn thing moved forward.

I will give it a try.

Every day is a learning experience in life.

Richard: you shock me! Did you think Jaguar would design the console so that those ugly cup holders were permanently on show? Never!
And the console arrangement remained the same throughout the 2007 to 2015 period (other than the suit mechanism, of course).

Hmmm, maybe he'll keep the car now, as I'm sure his primary reason for selling was those dang cup holders!

Thanks, everyone. I am shocked also. I thought something had to cover up the felt trim, and I have open and closed the center console lid so many times, I never knew it slid forward.

Perhaps it's the exposed/nude cup holders that has attracted no interest my 2009 XKR.

Well, I think you should keep this Jag anyway. You love it and it will be hard to replace. The story I hear very often (and have experienced myself) is the one that starts "l really shouldn't 't have sold that Jag..." And now that you know how to cover up the cup holders, why would you want to sell it?
