Chrome Trim alignment
 

Hi,

Appreciate your guidance and advice and apologise if asked previously.

Noticed the chrome trim passenger side rear wing, in front of the rear window is slightly further inwards on the vehicle,

Is it possible to re-align ?

Spoils the alignment of the chrome where meets the front side window and rear chrome trim - Thank You.

hopefully the attached picture may explain in more detail.

It looks like this section of trim wants pushing further outwards, in the direction of the outer edge of the car to re-align the trim ?

Didn't want to push and damage any clips etc

Would it be possible with the windows in the down position ?

Interesting, I'll have to look at mine.
First guess is that it is clipped on the edge of the body, and pulling outward (with the window down) might align it. I don't see any mention of the chrome trim in the workshop manual.

Mine is exactly the same it appears the door needs to re-alligned correctly

Thank you for your response and checking your vehicle.

Inspecting the door alignment to the rear wing, its a really nice fit, metal to metal and gap.

The actual short piece of Chrome trim is slightly inward at both the door end and at the rear end to the convertible roof cover, hence my initial thoughts the trim requires moving slightly outwards (parallel) along the whole length rather than just at the door end.

If anybody has the knowledge or experience to refit or adjust how the chrome trim is actually fitted, clips / adjustment etc, I think that would really help . . .

Not sure if lowering all the windows to gain access (or if other panels require removing) and seeing if the trim would gently push outwards to re-align

Just get back to you, my trim is 'almost' perfectly aligned, maybe off by 1mm, or less. Not something that is readily visible.
If it bothers you, I'd ask at a body shop that works on Jags, to see if it can be moved outward without damage.

Is there any movement in the trim itself? Is it possible that the trim may be held on by adhesive?

On my former 2005 Super V8, the rear door trim was out of alignment and applying pressure by hand put it back in alignment. The solution was to remove the door card, remove the trim and re-adhere the trim.

I'm only speculating, so grain of salt. In your pic, the trim does appear to be lifting up as well.

No movement in the trim, I was trying to determine whether held with clips / screws or adhesive ?

wasn't sure if the interior panel behind the seat belt needed to be removed to access

was hoping some kind person from the forum may have either fitted. replaced or removed the trim as guidance ?

Hi, that piece moves on my 07 sometimes, the front comes up and requires a push down to make it line up with the door trim, feels like a "soft" attachment. She is all wrapped up now, but I believe it happens when the top goes up, which is not very often, and sits on the back of it.. only happens on the RHS.. Have not been brave enough to take it off so cannot help you with your issue, but do hope that you post the solution.

Their is a Jag specialist in the area, will pop in and ask the question, failing that, maybe a call to the dealership

In a 'related thread' that shows up under this thread on my phone, although it's for a different model (XJ -X308), the chrome is said to be glued on.
It's likely done the same way here.

I just took the car down from the lift getting ready to go play a round of golf. It's 65* already and expects to hit 75* and some of our golf courses are just starting to open. OK so I just checked the trim and on the right side it aligns very well but on the left side it looks just about the same as the picture in this post. But until I saw this post I didn't see this and now seeing it I don't consider it to be an issue that I would want corrected. OK out to the course for my 11:30 tee time.

Managed to obtain further info for the chrome trim !

Apparently the chrome trim is referred to as "outer waist seal"

Attached a couple of illustration images,

has anybody had experience removing and replacing ?

Anybody with knowledge, ( or more knowledge of the Jaguar product)

do you think it will be a case of lifting upwards as indicated ?

to re-fit it states "attach the outer waist seal to the body" - is this a case of reverse - fitting from the top and pushing downwards ?

Does anyone know the part number or availability of this?

I assume it is number 6 in this diagram.
