Clicking sounds at warm idol
Hey friends,
Recently got an XK (2007 X150), very happy with it so far. Looked very clean and my mechanic gave it a green light when I took it in for a pre-purchase. Anyway, I hear a clicking sound sometime. Usually when it’s warm. I think it started as I’ve been driving it more consistently. It was sitting on the lot for a while. It may just be during idol but that may just be when I notice it. It sounds like it’s coming from the the drivers side of the engine. It’s not constant but kinda follows a sort of syncopated beat if you will. I’ve attached a video. I’m not too concerned (maybe I should be) but I’d like to figure out what it is or at least get some reassurance it’s no big deal. I’m about to take the thing on a five hour road trip so I want to be sure everything is plum. would love some direction, Thanks, Alex |

Looks like the video didn't attach. Here's a link to a google drive video.
Sorry I'm pretty new here. Thanks, Alex |
You might be surprised how often what sounds like a mechanical clicking like that is actually exhaust.

Sean U,
You have a 2011 XK and are used to hearing the tick tick tick from your fuel injectors. (I hear that noise, too, from my 2013 XJ 5.0LSC). That noise is normal and is a characteristic of Direct Injection, which uses very high pressure fuel pumps. Jaguar introduced DI with the 5.0L engine for the 2010 model year. The OP has 2007 XK, which has the 4.2L engine. It does not have DI or the high pressure fuel pump. I doubt that his noise is from the injectors. Stuart |

Hi did you ever figured it out? I have the same noise on my 2013 XK

I think he may have switched idols.

Air conditioning compressor makes that exact sound when its cycling.
Try turn off your AC, if it stops the noise, then you found it. Perfectly normal |
