Convertible Headliner
Looking for a part number for a retention spring that holds the headliner rear flaps to rear quarter window frame

Posting a pic might help.

Welcome to the Forum, Mac. Your Public Profile shows that you have a 2007 XKR Convertible,. It would be helpful if you created a signature that included details about your car (colors, miles, etc.).
You can look online at OEM Jaguar parts sellers and see if there's a parts diagram that references that PN. By my tagging Steve @WhiteXKR , a.k.a. The Jag Wrangler and the Forum's convertible top guru and inventor of the remote control top and rear window controller, he may be able to answer your question. If that spring is no longer available, a local auto upholstery/top installation shop should be able to help. It's what the factory forgot. |

Both sides are ‘stretched’?
Wondering what the problem looks like. Do you have a photo with the top up, showing the ‘flaps’ you are referring to? |
I don't see any springs in the JPART catalogue or in the pic for the top from here:

It's interesting that the JPART Catalog doesn't show that spring.
@Georgia Mac Do you know if a previous owner replaced the original top? If you don't, you can tell from the lower left corner (driver's side) of the rear glass. If it's not etched with the Jaguar name, it's an aftermarket top that's probably not identical in construction to the OEM top. Here's mine: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...93ac3dc2d2.jpg Stuart |

I’d check local hardware stores and online sources for a similar sized spring, if that is the source of the problem. But the tension that appears on the users spring, compared to the lack of tension on mine, makes me think the problem is something else, e.g. why is there so much tension on that spring? |
Again, a picture of the so called ‘flaps’ would be useful.

My top is original, and that spring is there, but doesn’t appear stretched at all during the opening/closing sequence:

The black cloth strap the spring is attached to ripped on my top. I still haven't fixed it because I'm going to need a new top soon. The strap and spring keep the back of the top snug to the body and I would think under certain circumstances water could get under the top. I also think the spring could be easily found at a good hardware store.

Ok, must have really stretched out that spring to get it to not return.
You can zoom in on my original picture for a closer look at what it should be. You can look at the end loops of your spring to get the diameter. The shot below is a frame from a video as I stuck my hand in there with a ruler as the top was opening. Maybe not exact, as my hand probably didn’t get all the way in there before I had to pull it out. Looks like about 3/4 inch coiled part. To be sure, take yours out and compress it to measure it. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...20f535965f.png |
