Cooling options
 

Looking for ways to keep my engine running a little cooler. Living in Florida and sitting in traffic wreaks havoc on every car. Thinking about hood vents? Has anyone cut out parts or removed the under engine dust shield?

I saw he put vents in. That’s def an option. Was wondering if anyone took the tray apart on the bottom to allow more air flow as well.

Additional air will enter, a LOT of it, and shake your bonnet to pieces! Another member (Mandrake, I think he's gone now) had his off and the reaction he got was horrible.

Maybe a few select holes would do something, but the car was designed like this on purpose. Doing one thing different causes something else to happen somewhere else.

Back in the olden days people would hook up a sprayer nozzle to shoot water at the front of the radiator to cool it down. Sounds kind of ghetto now, but it worked.

Along that lines, have you checked the front of YOUR radiator/AC for squished bugs or bent fins? That could cause some problems by itself.

Try adding a product called Water Wetter.

What type of water temps are you seeing. I assume the fans are working. As for the removal of the belly pan I wouldn't do it but you can put louvers in it. I did this with my old Ferrari and it worked good to let out hot air behind the radiator.

No engine cover helps some. More distilled water vs coolant ratio helps. Also ECU tune with modification to the Fan kick on temps and thus pushing the fan a little harder will help.

Many years ago I bought a gorgeous older Thunderbird for ridiculously cheap ($700) because the seller couldn't for the life of him figure out why it overheated EVERY time he drove it, even ten miles.
Well, on the way home after the purchase it did indeed overheat. I got it home after a 20 minute wait and then I checked the radiator............ it was 100% antifreeze, not a drop of water in it.
Hellz, I drained the entire radiator (left the block and such wherever it was) and refilled it with distilled water. Never had anywhere near a problem after that.

Three years later I sold it for like $6,000.

Cee Jay, your one of those guys that can fall in it and come out smelling like a rose! The closest I've ever come to something like that was a "broken" camera I bought for $175. Sent it into Canon for repair and found it was still under warranty and no charge. I only came out a grand or so ahead where as you made out like an absolute bandit!
