Differential question
Hi folks. My son brought his 08 XKR over this weekend with a horrible death rattle coming from the rear end.
After some investigation, I found that a plastic 'water deflector' for lack of better word had backed out of the differential nose and was spinning and rattling on the pinion shaft. A liberal dose of goop cemented it back in place and the death rattle is gone. The question I have is, "What is it?" It doesn't show up on any of the diagrams I looked at. Thanks, Marty |
pinion seal?

Definitely not the seal. It's a split gray plastic collar that slides into the differential nose and protrudes about 3/4".

water deflector?

Perhaps it is the Dust Seal. That is the last thing between the Pinion Oil Seal and open air.

We'll just go then with dust shield. I'd still like to see it on a parts diagram.
