Default Dimming gauge back lighting

I originally had a 2009 XKR PE Vert. There was a small thin knob on the left side of the steering wheel that controlled dimming the interior lighting including the gauges. On my 2010 XKR Vert it still has the same dimmer control. However, it only seems to control all the interior lighting aside from the gauges. Is this functioning properly or is there another control for the gauge back lighting?

On my 2010 XKR that knob dims my dash as well as the interior lights, but not to the same degree. The interior lights get down to about zero but the dash only dims about 50% total.

It seems that control is not dimming the gauges back lighting at all. It's quite bright and distracting.

The guage (tach&speedo) lights consist of a series of LEDs. I have in my hand, as I write, this the dash panel of a 2010 XJF, which is materially the same as your 2009. These LEDs are tiny. They are configured in a horseshoe shapes. There are nine LEDs for the tach. and and 12 for the speedo. Generally, LEDs cannot be dimmed. Perhaps recent editions of Jaguar contain dimable LEDs, but I have no knowledge.
What you can do is install a window tint film over the gauge cluster. There are many shades to choose from. Installation of tint film is always tricky for dyy. Suggest consulting with a window tint firm.

HA! I sort of mistakenly misspoke in my first post; With the Ignition ON and the engine NOT running, the gauges and dash will dim approximately 50% using that dial. With the engine RUNNING, the gauges and dash do not dim at all. Weird, I've never noticed it before. Of course, I prefer my dash nice and bright anyway.

Weird behavior indeed!!! I tried the same, with the Ignition ON, headlamp lighting ON, and the engine NOT running, the gauges and dash did not dim at all...

Did you happen to check the auto dimming feature, day/night?

Auto Dimming is enabled. Doesn't that setting only apply to the touch screen display? The other interior lighting (switch packs, etc.) dims properly aside from the dash gauges and instruments. Also, the touch screen display is further adjusted by using the illumination control knob.

Yes,sounds like you have everything set correctly,so you must have a fault somewhere.Do you think a hard reset would work. These are just my thoughts i am certainly not an expert.

Here is the deal. The car was in at the dealer for yearly service and I had them look into the issue. They were not sure so they contacted tech support at corporate. Just as REY mentioned in post https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...8/#post1337931 the led's in the 2010-11 XK series do not have dimmable led's.
