Default Dumb rotary shifter question

When driving can you shift from D to S or do you have to be stopped?

Strangely, one I test drove last weekend in Tampa would not. You couldn't dial it to S while driving in 'd.' The Salesman said that was normal. My '07 could do it so it raised a red flag.

This might be dumb, but did you push down on the knob? To get into S from D on the rotary, you have to press down first, then twist right. Just a straight twist won't get it there.

Ahh, thanks! I did not. I was thinking it was a trans error when in fact it was operator error.
