Exclusivity
 

I've been in Los Angeles the last few days, and have spent WAY more time stuck on the freeways than I ever wanted. So, what have I done with all of those wasted hours? I looked at the tens of thousands of cars that were around me. In all of this time, and with all of those cars, I have only seen ONE XK. I also saw one AM Vantage.

I love the fact that there are so few of these cars.

BMWs? Mercedes? Porsches? Audis? A dime a dozen. They're everywhere.

I fully agree. The "Belly Button" cars, everyone has one, include many, the Corvette probably leads the pack!

That is the best thing about Jags. They are so exclusive! You never see another one like yours!

Probably the most common are X and S-types. But once you start talking about XJs and XKs, they are very uncommon indeed. Even in a wealthy area like DC, where I live.

This is one of best selling points for these cars. Very few seen, and never one exactly like yours. The fact that they are wonderful and beautiful and exclusive is a trifecta in my opinion.

I see plenty of XK and XJ's around south Florida. Not many 2012 XK's though but a few. I see exotics all the time but the XK does something for me no other car does. Seems weird but I get a reaction every time.

I was in Fremont/San Jose/Mountain view (CA) this past week for work. I saw Aston's (Rapide, DB9), Several Panamera's (Just *DON'T* understand...), some Lambo's...did not see any XK/R's. In fact I don't recall seeing any Jags. But I was only there 3.5 days...

I travel, back and forth, between our homes in Lake Tahoe and the Bay Area and I continually look for XK's. I have only seen two in the past 8 months, which is how long I've owned mine.

Interestingly, the dealerships, in the greater Bay Area, appear to keep a modest inventory of XK's and R's. However, you just don't see them on the road?

I had to run some errands on Thursday last week. Decided to take the XKR out since it was a nice day. I always park the Jag far away from other cars in public parking lots. Upon getting out of my car, someone in a MB SL AMG pulled up right next to me. He started asking me all kinds of questions about the Jag. It was obvious he was really taken by the XKR's styling. That made my day! (Apologies to RJC)

Could be many reasons, geography of buying population, Jag past history (reliabilty)...however production numbers is where it counts in terms of exclusivity..Im not sure exactly how many xk/xkr's each year..but I know those records exist

I can say...there is an interest for them when trading them in...my 2009 xkr had 67000 km....and I got 10 grand more than I paid for it ...considering all variables..that speaks loudly for how much they are in demand and or dealers wanting to show case them...it then lasted 2 months on his web page..and sold for 13 grand more than I paid..lol

Also took my XKR to the store yesterday, and again, am very careful where I park it. When I got out of the car, a man came up and started asking a lot of questions/comments on it. Then a man in a Cadillac XLR drove by twice, then as I walked away, he was out of his car looking all around my XKR. I'm still surprised by all the attention this car draws!

I never saw an XKR (150) in the metal before I got mine. I've only seen two XKs in the Daytona/Volusia area, and a handful of older XK8s and XKRs. I used to see a few X-Type 3.0 Sports when I had mine as well--but certainly see those on a weekly basis. It's funny, I don't pay attention to BMW drivers- or Benz drivers who eye-fondle the Jag when we line up at traffic lights, because I assume they don't have a clue about the heritage of this car--let alone the tech (hey, stereotyping saves time). I do, however, take notice when an XJ or XF is near. It's like seeing a fellow member of a 'secret club', because I think Jag owners have a special bond... It's the things we all hear and ignore/argue/laugh at, like: "nice Ford Taurus..", and "hey, enjoy that Lucas electrical system..", and other unfounded nonsense. I just politely smile at the white-haired balding dude in the yellow C6, and let him "..blow my doors off.." when the light turns green. I feel bad that people like that aren't able to enjoy real leather, rich woodstuffs, or fine English craftsmanship--so my gift to them is to provide them a race story to slur at their golf buddies, like how he "..smoked a Jag XKE.. or XJS today..", or something to that effect. :p

Jag love. It's like a secret handshake... but with an aroma of gasoline and English muffins.

Thats what I like the exclusivity. XKR is indeed rare.

Well, it's a bit too "exclusive". Ever notice that Jag drivers don't flash their lights, finger waggle, nod or wave? It's like other Jag's don't exist. :(

Add another 10% approx. to those production numbers for North of the border

.....and thus for NAmerica these numbers do reflect the sales of many high end exotic cars...

I don't agree. I think the number that matters is the number in the country/countries where someone is driving. If Jag sells 50,000 XK's in China next year, it has no effect on my driving in France.

Since the XK was introduced until the official close of the 2011 model year approximately 12,000 XK's were sold in the USA. The USA is a relatively rich country as far as car sales are concerned, so we might expect a higher percentage of XK's than in some other countries. There are more than 250 million vehicles in the USA, so less than .005% are XK's.

To look at it another way, Jaguar sells about 1000 vehicles a month in the USA (of which perhaps 150 are XK's). The just released May 2012 USA sales figures show that both Mercedes and BMW sold 22,000 vehicles just in the month of May.

One of the reasons I chose an Xkr-s was exclusivity. There are 100 coupes and 25 vert's coming to US in 2012, of which all but about 20 are sold. I have yet to see another one. There are not many xk's of any kind where I live, but I wont go a day in my area without seeing multiple ferrari's, lambo's, Porsches, etc.
I was at an event at an exotic car event in April and my car had as much or more attention than any other. Probably because it was the only jag!

These are not the numbers of all XK's imported into the US in 2012. What are your numbers?

I think he was referring to the numbers for the XKR-S. My dealer told me that for MY2013, Jag is only going to make 100 of them.
