Exhaust Replacement by Insurance Claim
On Valentine's Day night, while on the way to dinner with my wife, we were hit from behind while backed up in traffic. We both thought there would be some significant damage as we got out of the car, but fortunately my 2007 XKR convertible held up very well and neither of us had any lasting injury. Filed a claim with the other driver's insurance and it has gone very well so far. Adjuster has agreed to a new rear bumper cover, some polish work for a very minor scuff to the boot lid, and replacement of the lower valence piece. The right exhaust tips were also minor scuffed and appear to be pushed in an inch or so on the right side. So he has included a new exhaust as well ($2400 part), I think it's just the rear most component. Planning to use a very well respected import paint and body shop I've used in the past. I'm confident they are a upstanding shop and will look for other issues once the bumper is removed, etc.
Question: I'm assuming I should take this opportunity to replace the exhaust part with an after-market high flow option. I like the idea of a more aggressive sound at open throttle and some additional power, not looking for anything that will make the car uncomfortable at cruising speed though. Looking for opinions on what I should consider, both as the replacement part and how to deal with the insurance company while doing so. And if there is anything else I should consider during the repair. Thanks! |
I could recommend the Mina Galleries rear muffler. I am pleased with the sound and it does not drone like most aftermarket exhaust mods on these engines.

I would look at the XKR-S rear box section, this way you keep the valves and quad tips and have a little more rumble. I have recently read on here about the differences between the XKR and “S” systems and most just copy the mid pipes or do a “x” pipe deletion. I don’t recall much talk about just replacing the rear box, but I think it’s only because of the cost being just over 3k. If the XKR rear section is 2500 then I would pay the extra 500 for the slightly more free flowing “S” section, and if you don’t like it sell it for the cost to buy the stock replacement...But maybe I’m wrong. |
I second the motion to replace the rear section with the Mina Galleries rear box. In addition to a slight increase in BHP and a throatier/deeper sound the Mina tips look fabulous IMO. j Oh, ant the cost is less than $1300 and takes no more than 45 minutes to install.

If I had a choice, it would be Larini, Supersprint, VAP, and Quicksilver in that order... All four are top shelf brands regardless the marque.

If you got a active XKR exhaust you could re-arrange and lock the valves for variable sound to your mood.
Or put in a remote setup to operate it live. |
