It finally occurred to me what the front end of our XK/XKR's remind me of.

Close, but I think this is the original inspiration. Still, the air intake does admittedly look rather more whale-sharky.

Hah! The catfish does too! Especially with the eyes/headlights. I know the later models look even more like a catfish...

The facelift cars lack gills, though!

Here's some more on the design

Interesting article. Most surprising part to me was the tidbit about the rear spoiler:

"The rear wing seems a little too large — it houses the mandatory center brake light. As a result, the spoiler provides more rear downforce than desired, and can cause the nose to lift at speeds over 130 miles an hour. That, happily, is not an everyday worry."

Who knew? Given how much larger the rear wing is on the XKRS/Speed Pack that was introduced later, seems like Jag would have had to do more to the front end to balance things out.
