flat tire issue - xkr conv truck issue

hello all, i had a flat tire about 1 mile from a tire shop (small world i was on my way to discount tire as i got my flat) i bought new fronts and one of the wheel caps broke so they replaced it, said come back the next day when it arrived in the mail.

so on the way there i had a blow out flat about less than a mile away.

i had them put on the spare till a new 19 inch came over, it was a rear tire and makes me think,

1. assume you have the spare on, the size of the rear tire and how small the trunk is, would a flat/tire even fit in the truck? i dont see that happening even.........

I would expect it has to fit. The diameter of the spare is the same as the wheels on the car so that's good.

Height wise you probably throw the trunk floor in the back seat or set it on top of the flat tire. I agree the flat tire wouldn't fit with the floor in place.

Rim Widths Differ

Desert_fox,

Although the diameters of the conventional wheel/tire and the compact spare wheel/tire are approximately the same, they have vastly different widths. The compact "space saver" spare is very skinny and just barely fits in the wheel well. For this reason, I seriously doubt that a conventional wheel/tire will fit in the trunk with the lid closed, even if you try to wedge part of it into the empty wheel well after removing the the compact spare.

This is just my guess. To know for sure, you'll have to try it and see if it fits.

I added a compact spare to my 2009 XKR with Alcon brakes: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-brakes-67260/ It was a very tight fit.

I can attest stowing a front tire and wheel in the trunk. It was necessary to "roll-up" the luggage separator in order to get the front wheel and tire in the trunk. Didn't follow Jaguar's instructions about using the wheel well. I didn't put it in or take it out. A service station put it in and the dealer took it out.

I know for a fact that it fits..

i've had multiple flat tires... and leaving the cover, leaving the tools out.. the 19" fits.. even the 20" fits.. but barely.. and it does sometimes seem to damage the trunk at some places.. but it fits..

I know tire shops hate it but I always carry fix-a-flat. I came to the conclusion on my old Porsche 911 that since even the front wheel would not fit in the trunk and would therefore be on the passenger seat! I ditched the space saver and used the extra trunk space.
I'd rather pay a tire shop to clean up the mess than leave a $1000 rim on the side of the road.
