Gear shift knob removal .
I know there are a lot of older posts on this subject and Iv read quiet a few , but Im still a little confused on how to remove the gear shift knob., I downloaded this diagram from an older post , I have a 2007 XKR the diagram says just twist the knob off., but mine has the locking collar ( top pic ) . Anyway my question Is , Is there a special tool to loosen the locking collar ? I thought about wrapping something around the collar as not to damage it and using a set of mole grips to loosen It .
Thanks for any advice . https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...1c742febc7.jpg |
I wrapped the collar in a layer of microfiber towel and used a needle nose vise-grip to turn it clockwise while turning the knob counter clockwise. I know that some have struggled with this, but mine came off pretty easily. |
:icon_that: Plus, I'd heat it up first with a hair dryer (but not so hot as to damage the leather). That should make it easier to remove.
