Thx in advance for the effort of the reactioen.

Thought all X150 transmissions were made by ZF.

ZF; 4.2 cars should have the 6-speed 6HP26 with a gear stick, while 5.0 cars should have the 8-speed 6HP28 with the rotary gear selector.

I do vaguely recall seeing some thread discussing whether some early 5.0 might've had the 6-speed, though...?

EDIT: Misunderstanding, I probably recalled seeing a thread discussing whether an early 5.0 might have the J-gate instead of the rotary selector...

I have for sure an six speed gearbox in my jaguar xk 5.0 convertible; so what brand and type?

My 2012 XKR list a 6 speed transmission on the window speaker . I also know based on the numbers when the paddles are used and by the number of shifts in normal drive mode. I do believe it is a different transmission then the 4.2 cars.

ZF is the brand as I said, and whether it's 6HP26 or 6HP28 depends on the number of gears you have.

To verify, you can create an account for TOPIx and look up your car specs with your VIN (or you can post the VIN here and someone may do it for you). This information should include the gearbox; it states "6-Speed Automatic 6HP26" for mine.

Topix is not for customers I believe :(

The 6 in 6HP is the number of gears so both 4.2 and 5.0 XK's have 6 speed gear boxes. The 28 is just the evolution.

Looks like you're right, my bad! I wonder where I picked the 8 speed up from...

It's not, but you can register yourself as an "independent operator". You'll only have basic access, since most stuff is subscription-based, but you can still look up some specs & factory equipment listings by VIN.

For 2013, the XJ (X351) came with an 8-speed ZF transmission, up from 6-speed. All X150 XK/XKR models had a 6-speed.

Course, you could always just look at the VIN decoder.
