Help replacing Air Filter

Morning guys, I bought a K & N air filter which I want to replace from the stock one. I understand that you must remove the underside plastic cover. Do I also have to reomve the left front wheel fender cover?

You really should have your vehicle year and other info in your signature so people know what you're talking about.
4.2? 4.2 R?
5.0? 5.0 R?
R-S?
R-S GT?
Portfolio?
Dynamic R????

Anyway,
All -R models have two filters, one on each side
4.2 non-R have only one, left side (???)
All 5.0 have two.

Only the inside fender liner needs to be detached. Some people find it easier to remove the wheels. I do mine by raising the front and turning the wheels full-lock each way and folding back the front half of each liner to gain access to the air boxes. There are I think seven (five?) screws that need to be removed to do the fold-back.

I can get to both filters and have the car back down in around fifteen minutes. Take off the wheels and you add another ten minutes or so, depending on your tools/ability.

K&N filters are debatable:

Stuart forgot to reference the numerous articles, videos and tests that show K&N filters trap more dirt while also flowing more air than brand new paper filters.

Anyone can prove anything if they only use supporting 'evidence'.

I did much research and found that the preponderance of the least bias sources indicated that there was zero deficiency in the K&N filters over paper, and that alone makes it worthwhile to use K&N over changing paper filters every year or whenever.
Is there actually any GAIN? Well, since there is no loss, even when dirty, K&Ns have my vote (money). Most tests by most evaluators do admit that K&Ns flow more, but then they try to negate the findings with faulty comparisons like "Dirty paper filters" vs brand new K&N. Yeah, that's not accurate, and probably produced by FOX nooz.

Considering how big the paper filter is compared to how small the engine displacement is I'd not expect to see much improvement with a K+N.

I didn't install my K&Ns for More Airflow, I installed them so I wouldn't have to buy new filters every year.

Other than the odd bird feather mine still look like new...

Yeah, mine stay quite clean also. Five years and I cleaned them twice, once just cuz as they weren't dirty at all. Evidently Jag found a good place to put the air intakes.

Not as difficult as I thought.
