How do you read eng temp on a 07 XK

Before I bought the car, they told me that the temperature ran hot so it had to be repaired. The thermostat was replace and it seems to be fine BUT I have no idea how to "keep an eye" on the coolant temp. There are no gauges to check if the engine is running hot or normal. Please advise.

The only way to keep tabs on engine temperature is to purchase an OBD Reader and a blue tooth app which will connect the reader to your Android smart phone. they can be inexpensive the whole setup should cost less than $30. go to Amazon.com and look up OBD readers.

What Ralph said. I paid a whopping $9 for mine, no shipping, and also got the full version of Torque and Dash Command that came with it, free.
It works perfectly, and has literally hundreds of parameters within.

I THINK this is tho one I bought, but that was a couple years ago. I suppose I could go check but there are so many different ones available it'd be up to you to find the one you want......

I think the real issue is the app that you get for your Android smartphone. I have the Torque and works great with the OBD reader.gives codes and the whole works.

And if he happens to be an iPhone kind of guy, he should get a reader that spits out wifi instead of Bluetooth. Just sayin'.

I got the OBD reader in the mail yesterday, downloaded the Torque app for free and everything works perfectly. I don't know what the pro version of Torque does but I don't think that I'll need it as the free version covers quite a bit.

Thanks!!

Why is that KJ? There is a BT/ WiFi for android too. Is there a problem with iPhone and BT with this or some other reason? I ask because I use Republic wireless and have to connect to wifi to use it, which basically means if I'm out in the middle of nowhere (often) I have no wifi connection.

Appreciate your feedback.

There are numerous posts about iPhones not working with BT on these devices, so wifi is a better option.

The wifi OBD reader generates its own wifi signal, i.e. it is a wifi 'hotspot'.
So after you plug the reader into the OBD port (and turn it on, if thats necessary for that model), it will generate a wifi signal. You then go into your iPhone's wifi setting and find that 'network' being generated by your OBD device, and 'connect' to it.

You then go to the app on your phone that interprets the data, and start it up, and perhaps do a 'connect' to your vehicle.
(This is exactly what I do with my iPhone and the wifi OBD reader that I have. Although I don't need to use it to read engine temp, as I have that displayed on my infotainment screen via my HKS Camp2 and GVIF setup. But I do use it to read/reset engine codes.)

Does that help?

Apple phones.... always create more problems than solutions.

Probably true, but some of us are stuck in 'apple hell' because the significant other wants an iPhone, so she can be the same as her friends (and I have no desire to support 2 different phone platforms, hers and mine), so I cave and she gets the iPhone (but I got the Jag! :icon_dance-tap: ).
