How is Jaguar's reliability?
 

Hello everyone,

I have been toying with the idea to return to the world of Jaguar. However, my original Jag was a 2001 XJR and it made me empty my pockets faster than an Herbalife pyramid scheme.

Because of that, I have been hung up on going back. I currently have a Dodge Charger R/T from 2014, 82k miles, and a couple thousand so I would likely just trade straight across for a Jaguar XKR from '07-09 with 75k+ mileage.

That time period for Jaguar, were there any reliability issues around that time or has time shown the cars to not age well?

Hey, I replied to you on reddit lol (triumphgt6). I also used to work at Amway WHQ, no I didn't sell their stuff. I'll repost for the rest of the people here and add a little.

See my conveyor but I own both an X308 XJR and an early X150 XKR. I will absolutely say that the X150 XKR is a much less needy car, not that the X308 was that bad, I mostly dealt with timing chain parts and age related failures of plastic and rubber. The X150 has issues like the AC drain and dash shrinkage. There aren't really explosive problems with it that plague the X308 and X100; which had timing parts, nikasil, water pumps, tstat housings, ZF 5HP24s (in 4.0 N/A cars), convertible top hoses, etc (some apply to some cars, some don't).

Just like the older cars, the biggest thing is preventative maintenance. I have daily driven my X100 XKR for 9 years during about 7-8 months of the year and 43k miles (I live relatively close to work). I maintain it to a T and it doesn't let me down; with the only towing being fuel pump failure and a coolant hard hose dying (really should replace the hard plastic ones every five years). The X150 XKR seems much better screwed together and it is a MUCH more modern car to drive, and that said, the X100 feels a lot better than the X308 to me in terms of modern feel. The X308 feels a bit like a classic car to drive; the X100 feels like a luxury muscle car (meh handling), and the X150 is much more capable handling wise and is a much more spacious car inside. The X150 so far has had tire pressure sensors go. Big deal in a 12yo car, I have the new sensors and I'm getting my wheels cosmetically refurbished and installing the new sensors then.

I did see you mentioned on reddit about built in GPS, I didn't see that (month from hell at work with a plant startup). Others will have to chime in. I apparently got under someone's skin in X100 since I find most factory nav systems to pale compared to even a cheap android phone. I actually have about a thousand miles on a 2016/2017 Charger R/T in Seattle just screwing around, and I'm from West Michigan, so I found the android auto nav fairly slick, which is basically letting the phone do the nav to my knowledge. I found the car not terribly refined inside but I had a blast hooning it around! Sounded great and handled better than I'd thought it would. It was a color like primer gray with clear coat but color wasn't a big deal and what's in stock is just how rentals work (20$ a day extra for that versus a Hyundai Elantra was money well spent)
