Inspection by indie mechanic
Took the xkr to the indie mechanic for inspection, and aside from dished rotors, all is good, with the exception of a rear backup light. He tells me that it's going to be $175 since it's a whole control board. I'm in a bit of a sticker shock, but tell him to go ahead and order it.
Curious, I start googling what it would cost to do myself and if it could be sourced elsewhere. In short order I find that there's only one backup light from 07-09, and quickly call him to cancel the order, but he's out on the road test. I drive over and wait for him to come back, and tell him the news. He cancels the order with the dealer, but we get to talking. Why wouldn't the dealer tell him that there is no backup light on the left side?

Just speculating here but he may have just called and ordered a control board and not told them why he wanted it. The bigger question is how he came to that diagnosis himself?

Yeah, I'd be slightly concerned about being the foundation for someone's learning curve. The X150 is a very different beast from older models. Of course, if he's the only game in town, you don't have the choice unless you want a long drive, but it might pay to check the forum's collective wisdom to confirm his diagnoses, at least until he demonstrates he knows his stuff on the X150.

There are some places you take only late model cars to, and some places are the opposite. Looks like this one may be the latter.
The mechanics at my local Porsche dealership were completely lost the last time I took my 944 in. Its all water cooled post 993 tech's now. Just because a shop may get something wrong with car of Year A, doesn't mean they might not be good with cars of year B. However, if see all the cars being worked on are older, or newer than yours, its probably a good idea to find another shop.

I find that the best place to take my 2007 XK is to the Jaguar dealer. While I do have an indie shop nearby, they charge the same as the Jaguar dealer [so there is no savings] also they do not have the latest and greatest equipment to fix the Jag nor can they program the parts when needed. Finally, the dealer gives me a one year warranty on their work plus a free loaner car. As for my 1988 Porsche 924S....that goes to my indie Porsche mechanic. That car is so simple to fix even Paco at the local gas station can fix it with just two wrenches and a screwdriver.
