Correct. When I was at the Academy last October in Vegas they only had XKRs and XFRs. The only time I got to drive an XKR-S at a Jaguar event was at the Jaguar Alive Driving Experience. Don't get your hopes up about driving an F-type at the Academy.

How was your experience at the academy?? Did they let you run the cars hard (harder than you would your own). worth every penny?

Mike and I attended the same r academy in Vegas. It is a great course. You get to drive the cars (Xkr) as hard as you can on an auto cross track and mostly on a road course. In many instances, the instructors will push you much harder than you would if you were on the track alone.

Smile F type vs Vantage

I'm hoping that it will do well. It looks like Jag got serious about making a sports car again. They have to get better control of the oversteer problem. Oversteer is desirable up to a point and then becomes just down right dangerous! See "Best Drivers Cars 2012" MotorTrend I think. Randy Popst (SP?) talks about it.

Cheers!

I took the same coarse. It was similar to the Bonderaunt coarse that I took many years ago. I thought that it was going to be a watered down version but for the most part it wasn't. It was a nice refresher coarse. I love the Vegas track, very easy to drive. If you XKRS owners (or anyone else) want to take something similar but in your XKRS call Spring Mountain in Nevada. I took a private coarse there and it was a blast. I didn't feel like the Hero that I did after the Jaguar coarse cuz they pushed me pretty hard. It's a private track (technical training track) but anybody can take the Ron Fellow's Corvette school. Just ask for a private lesson in your own car. They give you a discount if you don't use their car. They have condos that you can rent while you're there and a clubhouse and gym. I'm going back for my third time. That is my version of a track day. You just tell them what you want to work on and they will be involved as much or as little as you want them to be.

Maybe I am being too tough on the XKRS. I'm surprised to hear that it beat the DBS. It surprises me that a better balanced lighter car can be outperformed by a heavier tail happy car. Any times for the V12 Vantage?

I don't see a posted time for v12 vantage. DBS has a 8:02 posted time- the best for an Aston

The 2010 XKR handling on the track is very well balanced, with driver input inducing understeer and oversteer when desired. The car is confidence inspiring even with DSC OFF and sliding it through corners from Turn-In to Track-Out. The Dunlops grip very well when up to temperature.

While the XKR-S would be faster due to its extra power, I can't help wonder from all the comments if its suspension and tire changes haven't hurt the ease with which it can be driven fast by non-professional drivers. Randy Pobst questioned that as well.

The first things I would consider is putting a better set of tires on it, dial back your speed a bit, get more seat time behind the wheel, and more instruction if your driving skills aren't at an advanced level. And if all that isn't possible then just skip the tires

Search my old posts for XKR track impressions. The cars on track are amazing. They keep up with the Italians with no problems!

Hey John,
That's quite a lineup in your garage and a heckuva compliment to the XKR to be able to be mentioned in the same league as your other exotics.

I honestly enjoy driving the xkr than any of my other cars. I have driven newer, better, more expensive exotics than mine, and I still like jag better overall...
