I put one in my wife's Volvo at 100K miles and it now has 349K miles. Clean and oil it every 2 years . Not sayin I recommend them but it served my purpose. I think it cost me $25 when i bought it. She is shooting for 500K miles so we'll see how long it lasts. I got to do the 350K maintenance next month.

No you are confusing marketing lingo (cold air intake) with actuality. No mundane car has its air intake outside the car, as in the case of my XKR.

I have owned umpteen cars never seen any manufacturer put dual intakes on the outside of the car and on the lowest point is the car. This is extremely risky!! on multiple levels. Including flooding the car. Think about those snorkels on Jeeps and FJ40s, this would be the suicidal opposite.

Think about it, you can hydrolock the car by hitting a small puddle. I suspect they are able to keep the water out by using waxed paper. Whatever it is, it has overcome the reasons that kept mans from doing it earlier. In any case they have already 'hotroded' it for us above and beyond others, why insult the chef by asking for ketchup on your steak.

Errr, what? The filters are down by the wheel arches, but the intakes are much higher up:

Interesting diagram but what are the "warts" sticking out of the tubing.

My Jag mechanic is a big proponent of staying with OEM on everything. He feels that it is one brand where after market seldom works as well in the end....
me too, the jag tec said there was a better air compression with normal oem filter and it is better than k& N.

Almost all of them are "quarter wave resonators", which are designed to reduce induction roar. The rest are mounting brackets.

By the way, the actual cold air intake is at the top of the grill so it is fairly high off the ground. Just the boxes that hold the filters are in the bottom of the bumper.

Ngarara, must you destroy all my fantasies. If you believed the hood scoops were part of the performance, and allowed rain to cool the engine, I would let you dream, if you believed the 75th anv was indeed different, I would cheer you on.

Thanks for the sobering cold shower diagram. Where did you get it?

Sorry to disappoint

It's from the workshop manual PDF, available from JagDocs:
