More P codes
 
Hi Forum,

My car is scheduled to go in for repairs tomorrow. The coolant system hoses an pan replaced. As fate would have it, I went to Walmart last night and as I
m on my way home, more P codes. I looked them up, but they seem somewhat unrelated. I'm hoping someone had this same combination of codes so I can get an idea of what's needed. The codes are:

P057B
P2601
P0500
U0121
U0122

These codes are all over the place......because there are multiple codes, as well as how they don't seem to be directly related to each other, check the condition of you car's battery. Low battery voltage injects all kinds of gremlins in these cars. The resting voltage tested at the terminals should not be less than 12.6V.



There are plenty of threads on the forum that cover battery issues and how they affect throwing codes.

My thoughts exactly. However the battery is about 6 months old. I got a battery last year from Pep boys, had a similar issue, and my mechanic found out the battery was defective. Pep boys replaced it. If it turns out to be another battery issue, I'm going to blow my top. One thing is for certain, I won't go back to Pep boys for anything.

If you've already looked up the codes, please have the courtesy to post what they are so others don't waste their time looking them up. It also pays great dividends to describe any problems you are having, not just the codes.

Mine posts up random codes on occasion. Blame it on Lucas's ghost.

My service adviser told me to always remove my ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth dongle after I shut off the engine. Otherwise, it can cause random codes at the next startup.

P057B - Brake pedal sensor

P2601 - Coolant pump "A" control circuit

P0500 - Vehicle speed sensor "A"

U0121 - ABS

U0122 - Vehicle dynamics control module

I was driving at around 75 to 80 MPH when I noticed the restricted performance warning. I slowed down and took the car home with was approximately 1 mile away.

I didn't have anything connected at the time. I put my OBD reader on the car after I got home.

I should mention that when this happened the last time and replacing the battery seemed to fix the issue, I was driving rather briskly. Last night, I was driving briskly again. The first time the battery was indeed faulty. I wonder if replacing the battery only worked as a band-aid and did not fix the issue?

No doubt he/ she told you that but it sounds made up. The device is read only. BT can cause some hiccups in some modules like the TPMS but that would happen whether you left it plugged in or plugged it in on start up.

I would rather leave it in place than bugger up the OBD II port pins.

As it can trigger clearing the codes, I suppose it's not entirely read-only?

I think the OBDII port is constantly powered, whether car is on or not, so leaving the module in will probably cause some battery drain. There are extension cables which you might consider using as then you're not straining the OBDII port on the car, and some of those cables have a power switch too.

I would give it an overnight charge / boost and see if it comes back. Mine will start off the day with some oddball stuff on occasion. Usually if I haven't plugged it in for a couple weeks. No real rhyme or reason, just happens and goes away once charged.

The devices can't be read only because they are sending requests to the cars computers to get the metrics and reset codes. I wonder if there are buffer issues on the cheaper ones.

I retired my ELM device after a number of instances of the engine switching off on the over run on my '07 XKR. I had been using it quite a lot after a tune to monitor various metrics and eventually realised that the stalls coincided with me using the ELM device.

The last time it happened the car was totally dead and I had to disconnect the battery to get the car started again. It happened as I pulled up in the middle lane at some traffic lights on a one way system in the city centre during the rush hour so was very embarrassing.

Just a quick update forum, I charged the battery and Nirvanna, no more codes. I am really tempted to go to O'Reilly's or Autozone and getting another battery. The one I have now came from Pep boys. Its the 2nd one actually. The first one was defective and this one is not even a year old. Seems if the car sits for more than 4 or 5 days, I get this issue....I drive the car to Walmart or some other errand and on the way home, I get restricted performance. After charging the battery overnight, I've driven to Sedona ~ 75 miles and to Fort Huachuca, ~ 125 miles....no issues

Maybe you should try Batteries Plus if there is one near you. Someplace that only specializes in battery's.

If the fault keeps coming back after the same short trip scenario, I agree that it may need a battery maintainer.

My commute to work is 30 miles round trip and I take the car when the weathers too poor to ride the bike. I usually don't have any problems unless the car sits for too long. Since it sits outside all the time I should just go solar panel on the rear deck. I have one of the 5 watt Harbor Freight ones in my truck and it's been happy all winter with quick cranks on the 6bt Cummins. Before I had a five count of cranking for it to fire before the battery went flat if not run in a while.
