So today I took the 2012 XKR for it's annual oil change. 180 mile round trip at 60-70 mph and got 23 mpg. Nice day in the mid 40's. So here is the cost from my dealer.
- Routine oil/filter and chassis lube labor $40
- C2D3670 Oil filter $48
- (8) 217DDB 0W-20 edge pro castrol oil $96
They also checked and topped all fluids. Then a multipoint maintenance inspection including checking for leaks and battery test.
I also had a NYS inspection which they did at no charge. Brake pads were all greater then 8mm and all tires greater then 8/32. So you can do the math but that's there charge.
I'm sure that some will say that's expensive for an oil change, but I look at it as being cheap insurance for the peace of mind for your XKR knowing that (1) the proper oil and filter were used; (2) a complete multipoint inspection was performed and all fluids were topped off with the proper products; (3) you battery was tested and is OK; (4) your brake pads were measured and are OK; (5) your car passed NYS inspection; and, (6) all the work was done by an authorized Jaguar dealer using qualified Jaguar.techs. It doesn't get any better than that.
Most importantly, you finally got to take a long drive on a beautiful day and (hopefully) put the top down and enjoyed the wind in your hair!
I'll be bringing mine in for the annual checkup at the dealer Wednesday. In addition to the oil change, state inspection, and multipoint inspection, the dealer is offering a complementary suspension and steering check. The car has not given me any problems in 10 years and 61k miles (other than the duck bill), but I like to get it up on the lift and make sure there is no visible potential problems.
Did you ask for 0W-20 oil or is that just what the dealer used. I thought the 2012 models used 5W-20?

I wonder if this is a regional thing since I see you are in NY and I am in Florida. Logically it would make since to do this in colder climates. Have any of you southern area(TX.FL,etc) guys gotten the same recommendation? Or, is this an across the board change?
Excuse my ignorance as I haven't taken my recently acquired 2010 XKR to the dealer ...yet.
