New XKR-s GT at the drags
For an inspiring read, go to the 06/14 issue of European Car at europeancarweb.com and check out the 550 HP XKR-S GT, at $174,000 the priciest XKR and only 20 being built for the US market and 5 for Canada. They take it to the Irwindale 1/8th mile track in California and it draws a 1994 Mazda XR-7 juiced to 1,000 HP and beats it on the first run. There is an article and some great vid. Also a must read- the Editor's forward as he bubbles about the great things Jaguar is up to. Maybe Jeff with Avos' kit could pull this Jag, but not many others could at 8 seconds and change and 95 mph in the 1/8th! With cars like this and Project 7 cars around, Goodwood could become real interesting.

I have a hard time believing that after seeing the video against the Audi R8 V10 ....

If you have now gotten on the web and seen the vid, what do you think now?

You could give us a link, I couldn't find it.

Heh, they claim this is the only time a GT will ever be seen at a dragstrip - Russ, you listening?
|
The Jag beat him in reaction time, so on 1/8 tyhat is the big winner. Am I supposed to believe that the Pirelli Corsa have a better grip than the Nitto NT05 on the Mazda? Maybe the Mazda driver just launched to hard and smoked the tires too long ...

Fellow Forum members: I was just trying to keep you informed of the aggressive things our beloved marque, Jaguar, is doing to upgrade the performance lineage and image of its cars. I thought it was remarkable that the XKR-S GT had won even one of the three runs on the 1/8th mile track, considering the Mazda was a purpose-built time attack machine with over 1,000 HP. This is kudos to the driver and the Jaguar Dynamic control to get that 500 + pound-feet of torque to stick to the track enough to hole-shot the Jag to the win on the first run. Back to the days of "the Stingrays and Jags" at the drags. Jaguar is definitely on the move!

Would like to see some Jags racing in some series here in Europe. Maybe they'll put the XE into the British Touring Car Championship. It was great when the XJ-S was a regular in touring cars.

Not very impressive. I don't know what the weather and track conditions were, but I got faster times with my old 99 XJR. Slightly modded of course.

Ummm....
What sort of hack journalism is this? "550hp Jaguar 5.0L supercharged vs 1000whp Chevrolet LSA 6.8L supercharged (RX7) yet the contest was closer than you’d expect…" Seriously...what a load of dribble... By all means compare a factory built GT car to another of similar ilk. But an LSA stuffed under the hood of an RX7...? Yeah.... |
