Default Now my xkr is a 2 seater

yes i have removed the rear seat, and made more trunk space, plus i have incorporated a rear wind screen, i have been working on this project for some time, first of all i wanted something that would not compromise the car in any way, after many problems and alterations i have now overcome all the problems and everything can be put back to original in less than 1 hr.
what you see here is what is called a plug, i now have to make a mould and then the final product, then i have to decide how to finish it, i could paint it matt black to match the rear panel? Or cover it in leather (charcoal) to match the interior, with matching stitching? OrNow my xkr is a 2 seater-036.jpg

Now my xkr is a 2 seater-076.jpg my choice - paint it and all the existing black panel the body color, liquid silver to look like it is all part of the body, though this would mean i would have to repaint it back to black if i wanted to put it back to original. My wife loves it, as she can do more shopping, my dog loves it as she can get out of the wind, and we can now carry a full size suitcase for travelling.
would like to hear your opinions.

wow, that's some great fabrication work, very clever and well thought out. Leaves some room for additional subwoofer options too!

I opt for the charcoal leather wrap, with cheese.

Wow!
I applaud the time and effort you must have dedicated to this! An amazing job to say the least.

Personally I would make the material match the dash.

Absolutely love it...awesome job. Factory Speedster tonneaus are pretty much always`painted body color I believe. But to do that it may need to be shaped pretty precisely to look like its factory bodywork. If it doesn`t it may blend or integrate better in leather. Either way it`ll look incredible, and is a tremendous accomplishment...congrats! The lighting is a nice touch for when you want to be a bit more theatrical. Will a mesh screen be an option on the production model

Brilliant! copyright and sell to Jaguar or aftermarket manufacturer to fund the next Jag. I would opt for leather matching the dash. I agree with previous comment about the fit if you were to go body color. Brilliant!

as far as the bodywork is concerned before I make the mould I would have the finish to paint standard even if I have it coverd in leather.

the wind screen could be done in mesh quite easly

thanks for your suggestions . BL

I also eliminated the backseat in my car. I have been thru many versions including a storage box similar to the early XJS convt. I covered the Paramount Performance tonneau with leather to match the interior as well as the dash which is covered in leather. My latest project is to install a roll bar from safety devices in the UK.

Very good idea. Doesn't it interfere with the convertible top operation?

Not sure as yet ,I originaly was designing this for myself to give me more room for lugage and my dog,but if there is lots of interest I would be interested in taking it further.I custom build older cars for a hobby ,at the moment a1940 caddilac modified coup ( finished) I am now working on a 1933 dodge coup with a 291 hemi, but this will be my last car.

I would like to produce this conversion myself but I dont have the facility or the energy any more ,I would rather pass it on to someone else, there is more to this conversion than you see .also the photos dont do it justice it looks better in real life ,I need a pro photograther to take some photos,Lets see what the interest is. Very nice! Think l'd go with the body color if it were up to me. Leather would look great too but I wonder for how long when it would be exposed like that. I'm sure it will turn out great either way

I dont think the leather would be a problem as long as it was treated properly after all the rear seats are exposed also the trim by the R&L top rails exits are covered in leather,I have given it more thought and around that area are a lot of joints in the existing trim cover so it looks kind of busy so I think it would show up more in body paint that is probably why they finish it matt black. All opinions are appreciated. BL
