Oil Preference & Frequency of Change
 

I just purchased a new BMW and the service tech told me that oil changes are every 10,000 mi using synthetic oil.

I know my 2008 XK convertible takes 5W30 oil but 1 dealer told me to change ever 5k miles while another said every 10k miles.

What are people doing here?

Any benefit to introduce a blended oil into my car at this late stage?

Twice a year is a good average.

When I had my 08 xk the dealer's SA told me I was wasting my money changing the oil every 5k miles. With the new 12 xk I'm doing what the factory recommends, either annually or every 15k miles whichever comes first. They put in Castrol SLX.
